There's hope beyond this lone abyss.
Currently reading the webnovel Ra

Reading is slow because I'm trying to take my time with reading it (It's short?) + having a few mixed thoughts about the last few chapters I've read, but wow I wish I had discovered this back in 2011/2012; it probably would have inspired me to publish a webnovel way sooner (for better and for worse). I'm really intrigued by the mysteries within it regarding the magic etc., with a few ideas on where it is heading

finished babel by r.f. kuang two hours ago (still not over it, such a good book) & it put me in the mood to read more adult fantasy centered around postcolonialism. so i just started black sun by rebecca roanhorse and three chapters in, vibing. one passage i rlly liked thus far includes:

He knew his mother’s people carved their flesh as a symbol of their perpetual mourning for what was lost, and he was proud to bear the haahan, but tears still flowed down his cheeks.
I picked up Black Sun some time ago and intend to read it fairly soon! I've been on a Sci-Fi binge lately and that book's premise really stood out to me. Hope you enjoyed it!

Atm I just finished Starter Villain by John Scalzi; a very funny and entertaining novel if you're looking for something a bit lighter and mindlessly entertaining. I've been reading through the Murderbot Series, starting #3 soon! I absolutely love Murderbot, what a character.

The book I enjoyed the most this year (so far at least) was probably Becky Chambers' The long way to a small angry planet.

come closer by sara gran. fun story about demon possession

β€œI choose you,” she said.

β€œYou’ll never leave?” I asked. "Never,"she said. β€œNothing can get me out.”

She put her arms around me and pulled me tight against her. Our ribs crushed together and our hipbones slammed and she pulled me tighter until I couldn’t breathe, I was choking, and my spine met hers, vertebrae against vertebrae.

IK I'm years late to this but the fact no one believed Harry when he said Draco was a Death Eater irks me. Dude was consistently on point about things.

Also Dumbledore T-T

Onto the last book.

finally finished the fragile threads of power by v.e. schwab, which felt so much like coming home as a huge SoM fan who'd been following the series since the first release (and, yknow, made her senior year speech in HS quote a conjuring of light + wrote her uni thesis on holland), god i missed these characters + this world sm. schwab's writing still holds a place in my heart

now reading howl's moving castle by diana wynne jones though, since i've been overdue re reading it for so long now

Are you and me on the same wavelength? I've been telling myself to re-read Howl's Moving Castle. I read the book before I saw Miyazaki's adaptation as a kid. I love how different they are, plus Jones' casual magic world building. You have given me the push to pick it up today and get back into it.

Sophie stomping around with essentially a can of weed killer and Howl being scared that she'll use it against him because he's been sneakily listening in on her with magic lives in my head rent-free.

I've officially finished the Harry Potter series. After reading the books I can see why it was so popular (without considering the movies). Such a shame that Rowling has some disgusting views cause I thoroughly enjoyed her art.
