watch me become that one lady doing math meme because i've literally not found a single open jcink rp site that didn't allow you to delete your own posts. (i mean. they might have not turned on deleting your own threads at first but. that's a separate permission, so it's easy to miss it if you're going fast + aren't looking for it.)

if the site's still young, honestly, i would go ask. since the setting is turned on for staff by default + jcink's system means that it's extremely rare for a staffer to actually be making any posts while logged in on any account but their staff one, so. they might not realize it's not turned on for members since, y'know, they're not really on an account to be able to notice it. (and i mean. what's the worst that can happen, you bring it up as just "hey, i'm not able to delete my own post, is that setting turned off in the acp?" and the answer turns out to be "oh yes we did that on purpose"? you'd probs not be the only member to find that answer a lil bit sus, so. yeah.)

edit: actually, on second thought, i think deleting your own posts is actually enabled by default, it's deleting your own threads that isn't + has to be manually turned on. which y'know. same thing stands.

It's a bit more complicated because you always have to sign up in order to learn if deleting posts is enabled or not. And can you list the sites that do? I know I have joined jcink sites in the past but I've not come across it once so I'm wondering if it's just the genre I join that doesn't seem to do it? Oh, and if you could include a screenshot of how to do it on maybe a site you are currently apart of that would be awesome because maybe I just 100% missed where you can do it? Thank you!

And it isn't really about just 'doing it' when it comes to asking an admin. I'm just 100% not comfortable with it new site or not.

Edit: Never mind I read Gimmick's post about the trashcan situation. So even if it's enabled it's still not really in my power to have my posts deleted. Still, it's good to learn about all of this so thank you guys for clarifying things. โ™ฅ

two-cents about the whole jcink "posts actually deleted" vs "deleted posts collected in a trash can"

having collecting deleted posts in a designated trash can board is helpful especially if i accidentally did an oopsie, and if i need to reference a deleted post especially for moderation posts/threads. just a matter of book-keeping and keeping receipts, tbh.

i can understand if a member has an issue about their deleted posts not being completely obliterated but as a work-around they can always go edit the post they want to delete, remove all content and replace with something like "[removed]" and then hit delete before it's sent to the trash can.

i. i'm still just so baffled by the fact that you've found jcink sites that don't have a delete function because like. it's such a backwards concept that i've literally never come across it in all of my 7+ years of rping on jcink, and i've been through a lot of sites (or at least, like i said, i've seen it on the opening posts of threads, just not on replies to threads). i guess i could see it maybe happening on sites with less experienced admin teams and/or with sites from a good few years ago, but even then it just. has me trying to do complex math again.

to that end, it'd probably be faster to list out the sites that don't let you delete posts as opposed to the ones that do. i'd. also not screenshot it since jcink lets you do some pretty major editing to the posting format, but like. if it's an option, it'll be up there right among the report + quote + edit buttons (or, on mobile, you tap the post and then down at the bottom, it'll toggle a little dropdown with the options).

but also, again, like. if you are that determined to get rid of your content on a site you're leaving. just. edit the post, delete all the words in there, put in some text as a placeholder so you can save it. it won't matter if the permissions are enabled correctly for you to delete or if the trashcan is turned off or on. since y'know. the content does not exist on the site anymore and that's just. that.

ProBoards is what I used for my site and what I prefer from an admin perspective. Been using it on and off since literally 2008, I donate monthly still because I want to support the host that's given me years of entertainment. I dearly love ProBoards and deeply appreciate all the memories I've made there and Recent Posts feature is underrated as hell.

That being said, if you're making a site now, Jcink is better to learn by a long shot IMO because it just has a bigger potential member base and you won't have to reskin/code the thing in a year or two. There's a ton more Jcink only people than ProBoards only people.

If/When I'm involved in making another one, it'll be on Jcink and I'll be relearning Jcink. They have a decently active coding commission community as well which is another big upside for me.

Man, Im gonna be so blunt its gonna hurt.

If your community doesnt care about smut, use proboards. Otherwise if they're the frisky kind use jcink, since that kinda stuff is allowed.

I will return to the shadows now.

so it goes.
I personally love how jcink handles accounts more than Proboards. Being able to switch a post to a different character if I accidentally do it on the wrong one is amazing.

Though I am more familiar with Proboards, since that is the host I've used for over a decade. I think its admin panel is a bit easier to navigate, and I like the plug in system (well, depending on which one) for instance, the awards system and monetary system. Much, much easier to fiddle with than the built-in awards/shop for jcink. I'm too lazy to have to "search for user > delete single award" rather than just click a button on a pop-up and save it. IDK.

I do like that you can make things a lot prettier on jcink, since they allow dohtml. โ™ฅ Even though I can't code for beans. In general I think jcink has a lot more customization ability and it's probably easier to learn to code it. Proboards invented their own like. Language. lol

Though I am really looking forward to Proboards v6 and seeing what kind of skins will be on the horizon for that!

i became an avid jcink fan after v5 launched, and tbh i don't ever intend to make a site w/ proboards again unless they make some serious changes with v6
