I've got a hurricane in my head, I can't feel a thing, but it's better than dead
I had an observation the other day, but my own rp circle is insanely small. I haven't really been a member places in a long time... BUT back in the day- I don't recall there being a ton of natural disaster type events on sites. I haven't seen things like fires or floods or earthquakes, etc. carried out as like site wide events that everyone is affected by or have to band together in order to survive. I don't mean like apocalyptic style world-ending events, but just run of the mill bad weather. Has anyone done this sort of thing like, recently? Would you/would you not? Why?

I'm on a post-apocalyptic warrior cats site that just opened at the beginning of March. I know you said apocalyptic stuff didn't "count" but the vibe here is the cats aren't particularly aware of the gravity of their situation (i.e. why all the humans fled). Our staff-run events do feature a lot of natural disasters (one big volcano eruption, earthquakes, etc...) when they aren't Lovecraftian eldritch abominations crawling from the crevasses that said natural disasters should have never cracked open, of course. I enjoy it; the event signups are open to all so you can't really control who your characters are out with, which encourages writing with a lot of different people.

^^ huuuge agree in the sense that warrior cats sites tend to incorporate the weather + season pretty heavily into their gameplay... surviving as a wild cat colony without proper heating/less stable and reliable shelter and food sources make the environment a whole new factor in a way i've always rlly liked to see in rp

I really enjoy it when you can send pictures and/or short insta reels or tiktoks to a friend and you both agree that it's how your characters are individually or together or what have you dynamic wise. It makes even the brainstorming process of rping feel that you're in it together and are both excited. It makes me happy (zzz)

quote for this and the one above it, I've never been on a warriors rp, but I believe it.

kind of tired of the formality of power restriction that goes beyond what the setting would allow. it would be nice if more roleplays operated on trust rather than hard rules. the more creativity, the better, i think.

when i find folks who are more interested in a collaborative story than in "winning," it doesn't matter how op their character is. the scene is going to be a good time for all involved.

a bad roleplayer who follows rules is still a bad roleplayer. definition being: inconsiderate folks determined to come out on top of any situation regardless of what would make the scene enjoyable for their writing partner.

cooperation, communication, and consideration will always be keys to finding good roleplay.

i get folks are burnt out from bad experiences, but i do think it waters down what rp you manage to get if you're operating in fear.

This is why when I ever write a "fight" scene, I ask my partner in advance what outcome they'd prefer. I'm not trying to live out some battle manga where you outmanoeuvre your opponent with your hazy grasp on linguistics, I just want to write together with you.

I've had people get so up in arms about the way powers are handled or having people who are "too op", but half the time, if you ask for it and I trust you enough to be respectful, chances are I'll let you do whatever the hell you want for the sake of creativity. Go ahead and make someone OP, as long as it fits the setting and basic rules of the thing. No one is stopping you but your fear based on the assumption that someone is going to say no to you. Or past bad experiences or whatever. And if you're too scared to make the thing, then just ask the staff. granted, I understand this doesn't carry over everywhere, I'm only basing it on my own sites and my own way of staffing. We're super loose like that. As long as its reasonable, go for it. As long as it's not power for control, go for it. As long as it doesn't over rule whatever plot is going on or break the setting of the site, go for it lol.

Some day I will actually find a place where I feel comfortable to pitch my Living-Since-Time-Immemorial powerful being that fought for supremacy, got utterly bored of winning fights, then retired and now hands out portions of their power like it's candy, because it's amusing to see what mortals do given just a drip of pure power.

But that's such a high concept, it's probably more like the plot of a site than a single character.

I'm getting my muse back slowly but surely and it's great!

The only hurdle to overcome is... myself. As I go onto more sites and explore, I've come to find that I really enjoy character relationships -- rivals, platonic, romance, etc. -- and the exploration that can bring via big plots. However, I can't help but feel like my characters are perhaps too "boring" for people to want to pursue? I enjoy writing big adventures but sometimes a lady just wants someone icly to say they like me and not be flanderized for it smh !!!
