nodding in the mirror every time i join a site like i am ready to make a character that is so transgender.............. otherwise i like characters with curious tendencies/who tend to stick their noses where they don't belong. people whose selfishness and desire to have what they want without fully realizing the consequences gets them into trouble/ends up digging them into a hole they can't climb out of... chef's kiss

i've been getting into rp by slowly reusing/reworking a lot of old ocs i'd love to play again, so a lot of my recent characters/character ideas i've had to come up with take loose inspiration from their names while not being the exact same...

eg. aspen (old percy jackson oc) -> penrose, & katsuo (old idol gacha game oc) -> twins, capriccio & clover... retain a bit of the same sound of their name while having something new. i think i use more fuckass noun and/or dying victorian orphan names than some people do re: ocs but i think it's because most of my characters change their names throughout their life anyways (gender, identity theft, sometimes both) so i don't really worry too much about names sounding weird and fantastical... for every steve of a name in real life, there's an adeline or an ocean or a december and i'm sure they're doing just fine

i do have a tendency to pick last names for characters that match the first letter of their surname, though... that's just an aesthetic choice i think the alliteration sounds nice lol

+1 to language like "content notice" instead of "trigger warning". I don't have triggers, I'm desensitized to fictional content in general, but there are still some things I don't want to rp (or that I'm ok rping with some characters but not others).


yeah, i think a section for this at the beginning of a character’s profile works really well, actually!! obvs there’s some people here above my post that don’t read character profiles, but I’d say that there’s a large percentage of rpers who do — and i think people who like a heads-up/notice about content (myself included! there’s some notices I’ve had to heed in the past that I was really grateful for) are probably more likely to read (or at least skim) profiles, to check for themselves before suggesting a thread.

yes, i totally agree with individual char. warnings!! i play on a site that has a section for this on a character's profile; a lot of places will ask you, as a writer, to list what triggers you, but i almost feel like having warnings listed for specific characters almost feels like it makes more sense... i always take a glance at character profiles before suggesting or starting an rp, and i feel like it makes it easier to approach people if you struggle with needing things warned for/avoided in rp. on a baseline, it's a lot easier to remember what sets you off personally rather than everyone else's triggers, and i feel like having character specific warnings/cautions helps a lot with streamlining what you can look out for in a thread.
