honestly, i think for me it mostly depends re: the size of the group playing. i think if you're on a private/semi-private site, or obvs in a smaller group setting (like ttrpgs ofc), i really like leaving more things up to a roll of the dice + properly integrating how stats will work into an rp. i like both soft and hard stats, and i think in a group of people who know how to balance their characters well (and offer a wide range of stats + opportunities to use them; not every character's gonna be able to lift 500 bricks, so it's fun to be able to tap into other skills during play that gives a wide variety of characters a time to shine.)

if it's a larger or public-facing site/rp situation, i'd almost always go for soft or no stats, though. i think whenever a site gets really stat-heavy, it ends up with a tendency to invite some people who prefer minmaxxing their character stats to really telling a story. we All know that guy who has, in fact, built his character to be able to lift 500 bricks and will not engage in plot unless it means he gets to show off his Brick Lifting Stat, nobody wants to try and carry out a long-term plot with fifty Brick Guys,

god, i loooove in-character interpersonal drama (including related to ships and romance!!), but i feel like it really does require a high level of separation from ic and ooc to navigate. interpersonal conflict is easily my favorite thing to play (i... like writing the 'bad guy', it's fun to play villains whether outright or not) but it gets really, really awkward when someone can't separate themselves from their character, and it always makes me a little anxious about threading with characters that i Know my character won't be polite to/won't interact well with. i promise it's not a personal attack!! they're just rude!!!! T.T

surprisingly, this was always Really bad in animal rp/warrior cats rp back in the day... maybe it's because it was so heavy on the physical conflict aspects too

generally, i just crop avatars/graphics + then use the basic filters available on my pc's image editor to make them look more cohesive (ie. making an image slightly warmer/brighter if it matches the rest of my graphics), but i've done some overlay editing to images to change hair + eye colors before! i have a character w/ heterochromia that i use a bunch of official art to depict, so i just... overlay one eye w a different color in photoshop (& end up adding a beauty mark, too, because i'm weak) & tweak it until it looks believable. gacha game cards are Really easy to edit like that

sometimes i wish it felt as easy to write as it is to draw... it's taken So long for me to crank out a single post today while i've been drawing all the while without issue T.T if i could just post a doodle to a forum depicting what my oc does in the rp,
