i see a lot of support for family ads, and i have to agree. i see these get snapped up the most often. my family ads are picked up more often than not, and they tend to be the some of the first ones i look at while joining a site. i would also say that group ads tend to do well, though. when it has a central theme with a hint of intrigue - a group of assassins or thieves, a corrupt company with a black ops squad, i find people can be quick to throw their hat into the ring to get in on the big "secret" plots.

speaking personally, if there's an air of mystery, i find myself interested more often than not.

 - regarding xiv rp - where you want to go depends pretty heavily on the kind of roleplay you're looking for, and the sort of character you're playing!!

admittedly, there has been a very dramatic shift in the rp community. roleplay that is based on the setting is somewhat difficult to find, as there's a growing community of roleplayers that are more interested in clubbing and --- trying to turn roleplay into some sort of money-making scheme lol. but, if you end up liking that kind of thing, you won't have any difficulty in finding it.

my longest running stories have mostly centered around a player-made samurai clan my sister and i carved out of the lore of Doma. we've hosted a number of events and some storylines, and we've made some good connections in the process.

the party finder's "other" tab will often host a slew of advertisements for events and recruiting free companies. another great way to find fellow roleplayers would be through the numerous community discords. feel free to add me on discord (@dreamtangerine) if you'd like an invite and i'll help you to get set up and maybe find what you're looking for. xP

as a fair warning, the rp community is currently quieter than usual while folks catch up on the new expac. that and, MARE (if you know you know) is down, and a lot of roleplayers are suffering withdrawls from the fact lol

if anyone else is interested, lmk and i'll hook you up too!

edit:: adding a couple character carrds in case anyone wants to reach out for rp. :x located on crystal!!
y'cemi'a ghalsa. miqo'te halfblood softboy that sort of kind of accidentally commits crimes. haha.
yokoto tachimaru. humble koshu raen "fisherwoman" that ended up married into doman nobility. danger senpai.

-18 pokemon. baby mode. literal 10-year-olds starting their pokemon adventures with their best friends. edgy 15-year-olds thinking they're the hottest on the block because they just got their rocket uniform and they're in the big leagues now. mankey is cool. character's team is three rattata and they're confident they can take on anyone. the only adults are npcs. a world of wonder seen through wider eyes. a nostalgic trip to the first time you picked up a pokemon game and your greatest concern was just -- fun.

i've gotten a lot of good roleplay from MMOs. my longest running characters all find their homes there. i've done a bit of writing on tumblr as well, as well as some RPI (roleplay intensive) MUDs (look it up if you don't know).

the first MMO i took to writing in was Mabinogi, and I've been playing that particular character ongoing for the last 13 years.
the second MMO i've spent a lot of time in is FFXIV. my oldest ongoing character there is 7.

these characters have marriages ranging from lasting 3-11 years. they have children that are growing. i have a child that was taken in as an apprentice and is now an adult and has lived through cataclysmic events, drastically shaping their character.

genuinely can't recommend MMO roleplay enough. an evolving world does so much for a character's story.

i crave story direction like nothing else. light dice elements make for a wonderful cherry on top. been looking for some rp outside of the fantasy realm and i think this would absolutely scratch that itch.

i will make time for this. watching eagerly.

if you want help with testing things let me know, i'll see what i can do to contribute.

I hate that my illness makes me so inconsistent to rp with. I'll be having a blast and then BAM writing has to take a backseat. And then I feel like a flake, which makes me embarrassed, which makes me avoidant, and it just keeps doubling down.

And I hate even more that my social anxiety makes it hard for me to be brave enough to slink back to sites after long absences and request to rejoin. ;A;

I know people will almost certainly be understanding, but I just feel like I'd be annoying. otz

my advice is this.

let people love you.

i've suffered with chronic illness a long time, and i know how it goes. but i also know how much it makes my heart swell when an rp partner talks to me about a scene we had in the past, or something they appreciate about one of my characters, or how my writing inspired them in some way.

even if you aren't writing in the moment, what you've done is still out there, resting in someone's heart and mind.

give yourself some credit for that. that joy is all yours. you don't have to be ashamed to feel it.

you're treasured, and i'm very sorry to hear about your struggle with illness and anxiety. i hope your day is kind to you. u v u
