every so often it hits me that i have free time that isn't reserved for homework or studying for exams or working on thesis and it's still completely surreal to realize

1284 has been, still is, my highest after checking but that came from a site where text threads were a p regular threading option.

if you don't count those, then likely 500-600+ from another character, same site, character used significantly less mobile threads (said character is standing at 756 posts rn but i'm docking around 150 on the possibility of them being text threads). p satisfied w this one, since he's easily my most developed character and i do rlly love how his narrative turned out

supervisor has outlined for me the amount of work and special projects he now wants me to lead and manage and on one hand, my impostor syndrome and stress meter may or may not be going into overdrive rn but on the other hand, this means i can get a lot of sweet, sweet overtime......

i dont rlly consider my characters as characters im rlly attached to and view outside of tools for the narrative but that gang of ocs, man, i love them sm. lets GO

these aren't from my last posts (prolly like 3-4 months back iirc) but ive been rereading my old material and dang, ya girl has WORDS in her. when i remember how to write again, its over

Zhixin watches as the boy goes on, and he reminds him of a storm. He's frustrated pretissimo — out of place in the associative painting he envisions of the Yamashita name, its people. He continues to watch, a brow raised, and he thinks if Yamashita keeps talking this way, Zhixin has become victorious.

"That's the nicest thing anyone's done for me," she finds herself saying, in an exaggeration that doesn't sound like one. (It is, but drunks who think they're unlovable are such good liars.) "You sure I don't need to pay?"

man i LOVE dev activity in general, i find it an easy way to think about my characters when my brain isn’t rlly up to the task of writing and/or plotting proper. but if i had to list my personal favorite dev activities, it’d probably be like…

1) playlists — i almost exclusively blame being part of the youtube amv community once upon a time, and being a musical theatre girlie, but making playlists are almost mandatory for me when i make characters and/or character dynamics (romantic, platonic, familial, antagonistic, etc). i love thinking of songs and imagining how it would look with the character in an edit or in a musical sequence animatic (on god if i had more time to learn how to draw proper and make good animatics, i would have SO many of them by now), and more often than not find that it helps me a lot in navigating where i want a character to go. there’s a reason my spotify wrapped said i made so many gd playlists last year LOL

2) metas and retrospectives — real talk im probably pretentious for this. but similar to the above but just,,,, talking about characters in an authorial level (whether it be decisions made with them in the plot; ideas they’re meant to represent; w/e else) spark a lot of joy for me. i have a lot of dev threads that include long 1k+ metas about characters, decisions, or dynamics since it rlly helps me put into words the things i want to do with them, potential direction, or just make sense of a lot of ideas in my head that may or may not have a solid anchor yet. its like doing character study but from the writer’s POV rather than the character’s, imo, and that helps a lot for me in fleshing concepts out even better

3) memes. just memes. — i’m talking pinterest boards full of text post memes, poetry passages, alignment charts, video edits, what have you. i have one specific tradition when i join a site and/or make multiple characters in a new setting, where at some point i always must edit the characters to the misery x cpr x reeses puffs meme. it’s completely stupid and i adore doing it. it’s having fun with the characters and being able to view them outside the non-pretentious light / strip them to their bare character without the bells and whistles and like, yeah, thats a good time

4) hypothetical passages / future snippets / writings that will never see the light of day — yeah. sometimes. there are specific lines or scenes i’d love to do involving my characters, so i write them ahead of where they’re at currently (i have at least two scenes for my characters written in my personal server and notes app that, should they even happen, would be like. literally maybe more than 6+ months from rn LOL). it gives me direction, something to be hyped about, and just more dev to think of

i attempt to reapp old ocs who i a) don't think i've gotten the chance to play too much, b ) miss because it's been a long time since i've played them, or c) ppl have voiced interest in wanting to see them around alongside a and b. i usually prefer making new characters because,,,, i like making characters and new storylines, surprise! (no seriously it's almost laughable how many times my dm has managed to convince me to make a character so we can test run the chargen of what new random and niche ttrpg he's found.) and i feel like my prior ocs are rlly rooted in the aesthetics/vibes/lore of their original world that to take them out of it, to me, just feels,,,, wrong, somehow. like a pivotal aspect of who they are is no longer there.

so i also need to highlight the word "attempt" though bc, tbh, whenever i reapp ocs and start threading / playing with them, they end up,,,, vastly different than their original incarnation due to lore, plot ideas, or just the concept i root them in LOL. so i've taken to calling my reapped ocs more "expies" of older characters bc of that. it feels more accurate for me than just saying they're a 1:1 version of their original.
