hi! i was gonna post in the general interest check thread but i wrote out everything & it was long as hell :dead: so i’m skipping straight here :) my friends & i have been working on this for a while so it’s going to come regardless b/c we WILL satisfy our slice-of-life fix, but i was curious to see if anybody else would be interested too

it’s your typical high school role-play, b/c even bad bitches just want nice things sometimes. some general features:
  • inspired aesthetically by shoujo & shounen/shoujo ai manga (esp. from the 90s): think Nana, Banana Fish, anything CLAMP (esp. CCS), Sailor Moon, and 90s-esque Ghibli works (Only Yesterday, Ocean Waves, et cetera)
  • (yes… the site’s name is based on the Vocaloid song. we’re going full weeb. we’ve made our peace w/ that)
  • the premise revolves around two sister private schools: one set in a fictional city & the other in a fictional mountain town by the sea, both set in Japan! dig out your favourite 80s/90s Japanese city-pop playlist &/or your favourite Joe Hisaishi scores <3
  • the schools’ founders were good friends & their schools were historically characterized by camaraderie. in the present day, that relationship has since crumbled into intense rivalry & animosity, esp. since the mountain academy is experiencing a steady decline in prestige while the city academy flourishes. the site plot revolves around slowly repairing the relationship btwn. the two schools
  • the mountain academy was originally a private school but has recently begun to accept local scholarship students, negatively affecting (in the eyes of some) its elite status. meanwhile, the city academy is a world-renowned international collegiate (so you can play any nationality!) & boasts an elite dormitory system (2 to a dorm—roommate plots!)
  • generally you’d play students, but you can also play faculty & civilian characters!
  • ic time progression: your character will eventually graduate! right now we’re tentatively thinking 1 ic month : 2 ooc months. following, the site would begin in January 1999. if it lasts long enough we’ll be able to write out the turn of the century!
  • important themes: slow-moving, conventional/conservative countryside vs. fast-paced, unorthodox/liberal city life; classism; overcoming prejudices/stereotypes & reconciling differences (e.g., mountain kids are seen as hicks while city kids are seen as snobs); kids dealing w/ high expectations being pressed upon them by their parents/the academy/society/etc.
  • site events will heavily involve interaction btwn. the two academies. notably, this includes intercollegiate competitions in academics, sports, & the arts; a pen pal system (epistolary plots!!); & an experimental exchange system, kicking off with a select group of mountain kids dorming in the city with the city kids for a term! (but they will also feature typical shoujo manga stuff—the cultural festival, the summer festival w/ fireworks, the test of courage, the beach trip, winter break angst. you know. the works)

& that’s everything i can think of for now. if you have questions or comments or constructive criticisms, feel free to leave them below! you can also contact me on discord @ pomma tartt#5166! otherwise this site’s about as inevitable as a boulder rolling down a mountain into the sea baby!! keep your eyes peeled for the grand opening <3

god FORBID i pursue this line of thought b/c i have my hands full w/ the development of one site already, but imagine a horror site inspired by until dawn?? ignoring the logistical nightmare of the concept, wouldnt it be fun to have a site where the events are purely about regular people being forced to survive horrific situations, and how those situations might affect characters relationships???? (maybe one character betrays another during the horror event but both characters end up surviving and now they both have to live with that??? maybe one pc becomes the sole survivor of an event and the next cohort of horror victims have to seek them out for help and they have an almost npc-like role???) death would be very common on this site, so i imagine it would prioritize a quick character creation process and fast-paced dnd-like horror events.....??

proud of this exchange i wrote btwn. two characters ;u; maybe it's a little simple, but i think it says a lot about their relationship:

“And what about you?”

“What about me?”

“Would you have spoken to me? Been my companion? If I had invited you to sit at my table and partake in my food?”

Truthfully, the soldier answers, “I speak when I am spoken to.”

“I know you do,” the Emperor says bitterly.

re: the discussion & not anybody in particular, expressing yourself through a digital medium is rly interesting b/c the exact same phrase can be taken in different ways depending on the context

to take levin’s e.g. if you say “take your time :)” it normally wouldn’t cause a ruckus but say you already know somebody’s mad at you? suddenly the same phrase becomes passive aggressive & insincere. if you start taking in ppl.’s insecurities — i.e., once they start assuming you’re mad b/c you haven’t replied yet — then it’s almost like you’re fighting a losing battle. there are emojis that may help the situation & then there’s the upside-down smiley face

(i will say that i do not come from a social environment where the pepe emojis are regularly used so i honestly would not have any idea how to interpret them. sarcastic? goofy?? self-deprecating?? it’s beyond me)

the best solution i can think of is to establish the way u type when ur perfectly content & try not to deviate too badly, but tbh all that’s done for me is show how it’s sooooo easy to be fake online, esp. when u actually do have an issue. bruh if i don’t like the way you’re acting up but i don’t want to Disrupt The Peace i promise you will never fuckin’ know. arguably this is the best answer since it means nothing ever boils over but it wouldn’t eliminate the paranoia of “are they mad at me??? i can’t fucking tell!!!!!!! social interaction sucks!!!!”

tbh tho its best to not overthink things. ask urself if it’s rly that important in the grand scheme of things. if they are mad at u b/c u haven’t responded in a week? fuck it! make ‘em wait another!! at the end of the day i’m just gonna continue writing my gay emperor elagabalus/oc!praetorian prefect fic & mind my business, come what may
