what's the point of making dark and morbid kingdom hearts AUs when dark souls exists

(context: i've been shitposting to my friend basically for years now that KH and dark souls are basically The Same Game)

I find having a goal in mind helps make those characters move. It also helps if you clue into the site plot that other people are playing and see what roles you can fill for the story. Want ads are also really helpful.

Generally, I approach character creation with "I want xyz from this character" and I find that usually gives me a story to write for. Rather than just porting in my favorite characters blindly, I try to adapt to where I am writing and fill positions. I find it gives me more to do than writing a bunch of unapproachable loners.

Gonna use Sylvanas as an example; I'm writing her somewhere and instead of plopping her in the woods with nothing to do, I put her in a position of power in the RP. I also intentionally made her a bit of an outsider, which is concerning for people who think she is a Problem. She has a plot that will unfold as the site plot continues. This makes her an active player in the plotline, and gives me something to do with her generally.

To add on, I'm more likely to RP with people who play with this sort of attitude because it's easier to slot my characters into their story and they can usually give me stronger goals to thread towards. It's ok to have a few characters that only exist to fuck around with, imo, but for me, it couldn't be my entire cast.

i want to play raistlin majere from dragonlance and i would normally do this on my current panfandom, but I really don't feel like writing a powers section. i really don't.

your panfandom requirements:
- Required shippers heavily preferred
- no inane apps. i don't really want to think about my character's business major astrology sign is. if you require more than 3 pictures i'm out lmao.
- book characters welcome and raistlin or caramon open
- i honestly don't want to write more than a shipper if that's possible.
- no powers section. Raistlin's OP and can do a lot and i don't feel like condensing it. wanna know what he can do? the wiki is right there.
- basically i want an app with as little effort as possible so i can play as quickly as possible. i am more interested in what my character is doing in your world and what he's up to there than details you can find on any wiki page.
- spirits tentatively welcome so long as i can keep most elements of the character. not interested in low/no magic spirits settings, as i already write a raistlin "spirit" with no magic.
- emphasis on site setting over slice of life.

unironically reading is easier than watching tv

watching tv: need constant focus or you miss the little details; need to really pay attention to the worldbuilding; not enjoyable on most screens, watch on tv, it sucks; people think it's "bonding" but you're really just wishing you could do anything else; usually has actors that all look alike to ur faceblind ass; very poor selection of good fantasy; ruined by corporations and capitalism

reading: pick up and put down at your own pace; take a little break; READ OUTSIDE where it is warm and lovely and the sunshine is there; you can tell the characters apart because you have your own representation of them in your head; if you miss something, you just reread the last paragraph; relaxing, personal, private; no one expects you to join them; high selection of good fantasy; you can find books by artists that don't care what capitalism thinks

the more i read, the more i notice my adhd can no longer stand TV or video games. reading is just so relaxing and private and just my own nice little world <3

also gonna note that watching shows that aren't Always Sunny feels like it drains me so much. i don't hate TV but it's so. exhausting.

don't really need to see it but a site where only yugioh cards (not characters from the anime, just the cards) are allowed as FCs would be really funny. catch me FC'ing floowandereeze & empen.

i'm tired of posts that assume everyone wants the same thing. everyone knows that the only universal truth is that everyone wants a rock to wind a piece of string around.

I just wanted to pop in and say the most controversial rule by far that I've seen dealbreak many guests or people who were creating characters is the one where I basically say no child Face Claims. People don't have an issue with the rule that all characters must be over 18 almost ever, but the Face Claims one has got a lot of discussions/etc. when I bring it up to guests.

It continues to be the biggest dealbreaker by far out of everything else. For me it's 100% worth it, but I just found it interesting that almost no other rules cause such an immediate exit.
honestly at that point i'd just play on a RL site lmao

i don't know half the characters i use as FCs and expecting me to know the ages of random anime girl, which could range from 12 to 12000 and not change at all in design, is too much. i don't hate the 18+ rule on RL sites because most RL FC directories don't post minors, and also they sort FCs by age ranges.

you can run ur site however u want, but sometimes i think at that point, why not just embrace RL

deciding on how i should expedite this project but:

friend and i are slowly working on a open-species no-stat scifi site based around exploring an uninhabited planet.

it is technically a dragon riders of pern canon site (no rly, we're acknowledging AIVAS), but you don't really need Pern knowledge to play in it since you can make up a planet that your character is from. it's less about Pern itself and more about the rest of the universe's reaction to what technically counts as a genetic modification crime.

themes of the RP will be Player Vs Environment, solarpunk aesthetic, how far body modification should go, and how society responds to change.

there will be no FCs, with a request for art to be used instead of pictures of real people. it's all your turn to use zhongli. there's also no site shop, so you're welcome to start with characters with extreme body mods and genetic alterations (i.e. your catgirl might just be human who genetically modified herself to have cat ears). there will be some restrictions on what types of characters will be given clearance into the colony (tl;dr we're not Scared Straight: Planet Edition so you can't send unattended minors to "straighten them out"), but otherwise we're pretty chill with player creativity. i'm playing an unethically created super soldier who now streams in a maid costume, it's pretty cool.

once i'm a bit further in the skin design, i can post a site buzz.

If you like sci-fi/fantasy and Fandom, perhaps you wouldn't mind trying an OC-only mixed FC site? Ramora is Mixed FC and allow animanga FCs provided their appearances are relatively realistic or can be explained as stylization of natural hair.

Ramora is a dragon riders of Pern site, easily falling into soft science fiction. We don't require knowledge of the setting to play on our site, and have an extensive Lore section to catch you up to speed. If you need help, you can also flag down a staff member or member to answer any questions and help you build a character.

The basic premise of our site is that we are an AU site based around the idea of an isolated Western Continent with a vastly different culture to the rest of Pern. Alien life forms known as Thread fall from the sky and devour flesh, so the dragon riders have to fight this Thread. You'd think it'd be simple, but politics always get in the way. We're in the middle of a war plot, where our Weyr isn't at war but is standing neutral watching the devastation of the Northern Continent while it struggles to deal with a loss of resources and trade.

We allow short profiles, so long as you don't add things that we'd need to approve to character backstories later on (i.e. being the child of a lord). We don't have a word count, and have a culture of shorter posts with occasional long posts. We also have lax activity rules, and quick app turnaround. I should note we've been open 2 years now, so we're not going anywhere any time soon.

honestly I've kinda accepted I can't kick someone off the mass of RP as a whole; I just kick them off my sites and my creations. And ultimately, while it sucks that people are out there stealing things and doing horrible things, I have come to a conclusion. If they continue their behavior, they'll be kicked off other sites. And if they aren't kicked off certain sites, at that point, you can write that site off as one with problems.

I think it would be fair to warn others about their behavior, but at that point people start talking about witch hunts and other issues. I know I would be very hesitant to accept callout posts without hard concrete evidence. Like it's one thing to tell me that a member is bad news, but if there's no screenshots, I'm going to be a little suspicious. Especially since we've seen from twitter and tumblr how callout posts can sometimes be absolutely ridiculous and asinine and simply a matter of a disagreement over fiction.

But honestly, I care less about other sites. I know that's callous to say, but I can't protect other sites. I can't control them or their admin styles. I have to care about my site, and the people who interact with me there.
