I have probably a good solid like 12 different sites that are fully formed and rp-able. But will I open them? No. I probably won't. Am I working on yet another to add to that pile? Absolutely. It's been a total fascination as of late. How many sites am I currently running? One public, one private. I seem to make things in the winter time though, as most of my site ideas come between the months of October and February. Seasonal creativity at best.
pls give me ur energy so i can finish just the one site i'm working on--

Hey so I have a fantasy site that's not quite finished yet, but is opening up for soft opening while I finish the skin and arrange everything outside of google docs. We fit most of your criteria, including an optional progression system that is tied to post count and lets you progress. We do, however, have Face Claims-- any illustrated source is fine, and we're even ok with people forgoing the claim entirely. We allow original art, so if you have commissioned art of Frey, it totally works.

Ars Arcanum is a very high fantasy setting with inspiration from D&D 5e. Using D&D's system, we have created an original fantasy world mostly inspired by Azeroth. The main story revolves around nations adjusting to the fall of the yuan-ti Empire subjugating the world to unification, and the calamity that ended the empire being a persistent threat. Even in the end times, though, mortals cannot work together in peace. The tech level mirrors Warcraft, in that guns and airships and communication devices do exist, but not everyone has access to them and not everyone uses them. It's fantasy-tech, not so much medieval but also not so much Victorian.

Frey would work as a College of Spirits Bard, I can already see, or perhaps even a Divination wizard, with some adjustments to give him prophetic visions. We allow some wiggle room with classes and powers. Given the fall of the Empire made plenty of people desperate for money, swindling is definitely a possible option for a desperate kid. Perhaps he can even be a refugee, and that could make his situation even more dire.

Anyway feel free to DM me if you're interested; I can send you the discord link, or you can be asked to put on a waitlist while I work on the skin c:.

whew that was a pause.

I'm sorry for those that were excited for this project. I got really busy over the summer and then went back to school, and had to drop some aspects of the original project. You can see some details in the OP. I'm actually making pretty good pace with this restructure, and it should be up before February of next year.

As a note, for those excited about the lack of a hard stat system, stats will be optional and you can still do important things without stats. DM adventures might require stats, or they might prefer to be played freeform; it's up to individual DMs. I'm including the stat and progression system because I personally find it fun, but I don't think it should be required for play provided everyone is acting in good faith towards their fellow RP'ers. Hell, the things I find intolerable are problems that arise even when stats are used, so I'm not going to be giving stat players special treatment in this regard. I am very open about the fact that I don't like when players simply join a RP to "win it" or prove their superiority to other players.

The discord is still open for those who want to see where the project is going. I'm just changing a lot of it. We're onto basic info and lorebuilding, and there's room to reserve canons and important roles before the site officially opens.

warcraft devs: "we've had this story planned since WC3! We swear! it's going to wrap up everything neatly and now you're gonna--"

the rest of us who read prior interviews and know they make this shit up as they go: "please shut up and just rewrite the ending to starcraft 2"

arcane is one again giving me seraphine thoughts and i hate it so here lemme vent a few on how to fix seraphine:

- she spends enough time in Zaun to know exactly who has enough manpower and weaponry to beat Piltover in a violent uprising.
- she knows exactly who is gonna suffer if Zaun does rise up with force.
- honestly she's a little scared of Zaun's chemical weapons herself.
- so she uses her platform to bring awareness to issues in Zaun, uplift people from Zaun, give voices to Zaun activists, and puts Zaun performers on her music when she gets the chance.
- she's not sure if what she's doing will work, but she doesn't know any other way.
- it's still putting her in danger, though perhaps she's not aware that Camille is looking into her.
- some do consider Seraphine performative and shallow, but she's doing what she can to help. She's putting money into projects for Zaun, and trying to make Piltover commonfolk less afraid of Zaunites. and honestly like i'mma consider that her in-game fighting is noncanon anyway, but she can't deal with violence at all. Because of her psionic hearing, she can "hear" the pain of others and it really upsets her when things turn violent.
- she wants to find someone who believes her that the hextech crystals are alive. because of her sensitivities and lack of combat ability, she can't do anything alone, but no one seems to believe her when she says she can hear her crystal.

I've never played so much as a second of the game, but Arcane episode 1 has me sold: League of legends. No mechanics, just the lore, please and thank you
seconding this but canons required. oc-only is an immediate hard pass.

reason: i want to fix Seraphine and specifically Seraphine. Please let me do this.

I just try to be myself as much as possible. I have a firm standing with my rules, but will bend them within reason if a member needs to. As long as they ask me about it before doing the thing, I'm usually okay with some level of it. I don't sit around asking for respect though, I feel like I earn it. I get to know each and every member on a personal kind of level, which I mean I guess is okay for having a smaller site. I try to do everything fairly as well, and don't really stand for discrimination or intolerance of any such kind.

also, sorry for the tag but holy crap that profile pic is cute who is it? The mini hover lol.
it's kal'tsit from arknights.

Yeah, I was thinking that generally, being fair is good. But if you observe someone doing something "bad", consistently, do you want to be the kind of person who thinks they'll break the habit, do you do nothing, or do you make it clear that you won't stand for it?
i'm usually the latter honestly.

if someone's making people in my community incredibly uncomfortable, even if they haven't broken any rules, i'm getting rid of them.

tbh with endwalker on the horizon i keep thinking i want to get back into XIV but then i remember i have really bad attention span issues and am not super consistent with games, and paying 15$ a month doesn't seem like something i can afford to spend on a game i won't play rn.

i can kinda see why people don't do original dragon riders. after trying to build a site based around it, the amount of work that goes into it is just so exhausting. it's so much easier to just use Pern as a base because there's already so many resources for it and already a fandom to pull from.

i've switched to just focusing on the site being an original fantasy adventure site and while that's still hard, i felt the pressure came off immediately. i suddenly didn't have to make a bunch of dragon designs and inspirations and think about rules around dragons.

recently disenfranchised WoW player now trying to give XIV, which I'd only played a token amount before, an earnest shot

wish me luck.
i miss WoW so much... but i'm not going back until they make meaningful changes to stop the sexist behavior in their offices. i uninstalled it and the launcher at the beginning of july and i've been sitting here, twiddling my thumbs, ever since.
tbh after seeing how much they refuse to learn from other, better MMOs i'm kinda over wow forever. even if they fix their sexist office culture, i'm not coming back to WoW. i've played games that are actually enjoyable, and so long as Ion's in charge WoW will never be fun again.

tbh tend to not be a big fan of generic positivity.

it just feels so impersonal that it doesn't make me happy and instead i just kinda don't vibe with it. those "you're beautiful and you matter!" graphics showing up on the timeline? don't care. you don't know me. you don't care about me. you're just spreading something nice and sure it might work on some people but it does nothing for me.

but if someone goes out of their way to say something nice specifically to me, about me, that gets me. which is why i think just spreading generic positivity isn't enough. you have to tell the people in your life that you care about them. just posting "you're a good person and i love you" on social media to a mass crowd isn't gonna make as much of an impact as messaging the people you care about and saying "i appreciate when you do x."

Thinking about different stat systems and ways to earn points/xp/etc makes my brain hurt a llittle

Wc? Too much padding. Threads? Short threads. Posts? Short posts. "Progression"? Too vague and too much staff work.

Granted, all of those are only for people that would take advantage of it - but they still influence everything
i go with posts and then ban bad-faith actors that are grinding posts for the sake of player killing unwilling participants. if they're just doing it to be powerful, i don't care. it's why they want to be powerful that i'm going to take issue with.

as a short poster i don't see an issue with short posts either so that's just me.

Hello I have a fantasy site in construction called Ars Arcanum, and it'll have canon positions. The problem is that I'm currently in school so construction is going slow. I'm still in input stages, so feel free to DM me if you're interested in a site that probably won't be around until next year! I can invite you to the discord and the WIP site. The basic premise is that it's a d&d 5e site dealing with the fall of an empire and the political strife that comes from it. There are nations on the brink of civil war as people fight for control; meanwhile, the calamity that ended the empire is at their doorstep, and the otherworldly invaders could possibly end the world as we know it. It uses primarily animanga FCs. Players are allowed one character that starts at level 5 and the rest start at level one; you can also opt-out of the stat system.

I also have Ramora Weyr if you're okay with mixed FCs. We're a little more strict on what animanga fcs get used, but you can basically assume anything that looks like a natural human is safe. Our genre is low science fantasy, so basically not a lot of magic and powers. We allow member-run plots, not just with characters you play but also with NPCs if you ask permission from the admins first. We're usually pretty willing to let you do stuff. We've got a major war plot coming up that we're gonna be asking for a lot of member input on.

Due to my personal taste, I'm not a big fan of sandbagging or turning an entire event into a joke. Ars Arcanum doesn't have a tone yet (it's still new), but Ramora veers towards serious and even a little dark at times. We do have funny, light-hearted moments and silly characters, but even our silliness is very grounded in the universe. Ars Arcanum will probably be set up the same way because honestly, people who turn everything you try to write into a joke frustrate me too.
