THANK YOU I was reading this thread sweating so hard like "I promise members that admins aren't ableist assholes it's just I opened one site and almost died"

unrelated to contrast/colors but like just recently I bought a site skin and asked for responsive and the coder was like "this will add an entire skin's worth of labor to the bill" and I was like "nvm"

would I KILL for a responsive skin that makes it easier to post on mobile? god yes. do I want to pay a few more hundred dollars for the privilege of making a hobby easier? LMFAO no just be happy I don't make everyone post on the jcink default skin

I'm on the side of "Ideally staff should not be normal members."

A normal member is incentivized to do things to please other members and to prioritize their own plots above all. That's normal and fine. A staff member doing that will lead to long term chaos. You have to put the wellbeing of the site above the short-term interests of your friends and that's going to hurt. That's going to suck. And it's harder to do if you don't draw boundaries around "I'm staff"

Title: Emerius
Subtitle: A canon-divergent Dragon Age RP

Description: It’s been four years since the Mage-Templar ignited in Kirkwall, and the city is no better off for it. Crime lords ensnare these newly freed mages as they compete for territory. The disgraced knights of the Templar Order fight to contain the growing threat of forbidden magic. And the city government tries to conceal as much of the chaos as they can—lest Kirkwall’s powerful rivals encroach on what isn’t theirs to take. Emerius is a site that responds to characters’ actions. Come tell stories with us.

There's definitely been sites in the distant bygone past where I could manifest 1k total posts across the board, if I combine the post count from all my characters. But those site are either deleted or locked, I'll never fully remember. I was also a student with no life and had all the time.

The one I'm still fond of was rlrp supernatural site that I was on from 2018-2020. I still have login access to this one. 341 posts total on my main, but combine that with the total amount of posts across my five characters it comes up to be... 844. I definitely was hitting a stride on there for some reason. Very much into the mysteries of the site.

After that, I joined a rlrp urban fantasy site that I was on from 2020-2023. That one I don't have login access, but it was roughly 600-ish posts total across six characters. My main had 310 posts.

For some reason with animanga sites I've only been able to maintain one character, and it's been a hit or miss whether if I post a lot or not. I'm not sure why that is...

i used to research about generative AI for my job and im begging everyone to like familiarize themselves with how the technology works before writing an opinion in here, please i am suffering so much. if you don’t know what a “dataset” or “machine learning model” is then please google some more before posting

edit: in case this isn’t clear i mean that generative AI is a mass theft machine, not inherently creative

my stance on AI boils down to this

1. I won't allow it on sites that I personally run

2. I judge you less for it if you would feel no objection to me lifting your posts/application and frankensteining it into something totally different without credit or compensation

Can we talk about the devastating, heart-breaking moment when you find a beautiful piece of fanart of your face claim...

...only to discover it was AI-generated?

All-in-all this circles back to the 'proper sourcing/crediting' camp and while some folks can make the argument that roleplaying is more about the writing than the aesthetic, I agree with the points made about the animanga roleplaying experience is now packaged as a whole with equal parts writing/aesthetics/graphics and that's not something that's gonna change in a while, I feel. Also the exploitative nature of some anime/manga AI-generators have caused some artists I follow to put statements in their social media platforms to plead with others that their art isn't allowed to be used to train AI speaks volumes. Anyway that's my yackety-sax two-cents piece for this thread.

i agree with the strikeout text and i’m in the camp of “if you would be upset about your own writing lifted and bastardized without your consent then you should shy away from AI generators

anyhow this is why AI art is banned on my site and i have no intention of changing the rule 🫡 let’s all normalize using credited art as hovers (pfps are commonly allowed by artists) rather than using generators
