what do you want to know? my height, hobbies, quirks, the color of my underwear?
okay so i mostly lied, i only started watching more again this morning, and i can feel this one is gonna take a while too when we started it off to the confused screaming of hearing "edward elric coughing into my ears" and have been rolling from there, but this is the punishment i have chosen for myself, so here we are-

in all seriousness though! i am still so very feral for wanting to get a group together to aggressively fix vampire knight the way the creators were too cowardly to do, so. uh. site owners, please search your hearts for if you think you can give it a home, and casual vampire romance enjoyers, may i interest you in an older series with mega cool world-building that gets largely neglected for us to steal to play out some really cool characters.

original post under the spoiler
okay, look, i understand that like no one knows what the heck vampire knight is in this the year of our lord 2024 (and/or that whatever knowledge the majority of people here have is simply from me periodically yelling about it whenever the brainrot takes over again), but listen, it's called i am finally going to go fully feral for this series and actually try to get a group together so we can all have a good time rolling around in this dumpster i call home.

for those of you who don't know what this series is - vampire knight's overarching premise revolves around a school where the day class are all humans, the night class are all vampire nobility/royalty, and the two prefects are trying to keep the night class' secret to help the two races live together in harmony while the actual series plot revolves around the story of yuuki cross being torn between the pureblood vampire prince kaname kuran (with all of his shady vampire politics) and former vampire hunter turning into a vampire zero kiryuu (with all of his traumas and prejudices). it's a twilight-esque series, so a lot of the world-building and character development gets thrown out in favor of ~young adult teen vampire romance novel~ shenanigans, which is a genuine shame because so much of the original premise, the overarching world-building, and individual characters have so much missed potential as a result, but i mean, hey, that's what rp is for.

it's an old series originally from like... the late 00s, early 10s, so you can definitely read the series online (there's an ongoing sequel series that's still being updated) and i think there's a couple seasons of anime for it that wraps up right where the problematic stuff gets revealed - but i would be remiss to not mention the gigantic content warning for canonical sibling incest. i don't approve of it (in fact, i want to aggressively pretend it never happened for rp purposes), but i don't control that it exists in canon, so if you aren't down for that, please don't engage with it.

that introduction out of the way - i'm genuinely feral for what this series could have been. i desperately wish we could have seen more of the world-building (like the vampire senate and how that interacted with pureblood society or the hunters association) and i constantly think the characters were done huge disservices (literally every single night class character deserved so much more exposition and depth and so did the headmaster and zero's teacher and even kaname + zero just got shafted for development if it furthered the love triangle). and that's before you get into that i think the a-plot romance of "kaname is in love with zero but zero thinks he's trying to hit on yuuki and kaname can't say a word about it since it would ruin every single thing he's done for the past decade" and b-plot romance of "takuma's grandfather is okay with him being gay if it's to vampire royalty but unfortunately he is gay for the wrong royal" is just much more fun than the twilight love triangle we get.

so. i want to write that. which is where this search gets messy.

to cut to the chase - i can't write vampire knight stuff without a group to write it with. but i also can't find a group to write it with if i don't have a place to write it with them on. but it's hard to pick a place to write it on if i don't know where the group would actually want to go write it on. so. i turn it over to you, pixel community, to help me with this brainrot that has me so terminally infected that i once literally turned in an entire two hour "remake" of romeo and juliet using re-voiced-over anime from it + that i accidentally wrote furry smut for at seventeen.

staffers, if you know your community can accommodate this and have a place for the majority of the vampire knight cast to exist and aggressively ignore the canon problematic stuff with as much power as we physically possibly can, pitch it to me. i'm most comfortable with jcink and discord as platforms, but i'm willing to go back to proboards or even try out a new platform for this.

casual pixelers, if you're still with me and either already on board with this chaotic ramble or interested enough to let me continue to ramble about this series to you while you work your way through it, hit me up. i've played kaname before and am most comfortable with him, but i've dabbled a lil bit with senri shiki as well and i'd honestly be willing to give most of the rest of the main cast a shot if everything else filled up. if we can't find a site, i'm not opposed to just throwing a private discord server together and going from there (seriously, the forum feature makes discord work nearly the same as a site, it's so nice), but i'm fully down to poll the room before we commit to anything.

i just. i really really really am craving rping vampire knight stuff and would literally be over the moon to just get a group together to do it with ;;;;;;;;

pokemon colosseum and pokemon xd gale of darkness are both honestly such good games and i wish more people knew about them since look, listen, how many games do you get to actually have the team rocket experience by stealing pokemon (bonus points for colosseum having you play as a former criminal) and you start the games canonically with either eevee (xd) or espeon + umbreon (colosseum). they also introduce the singular best character in all of pokemon, miror b and the games are actually surprisingly difficult considering they're spinoffs from the gamecube era and i just think more people should know about them.

pokemon conquest too since it's another largely forgotten side game from the nintendo ds and it's a weird play but it's also just genuinely interesting since it's medieval pokemon kingdoms where you have partner dynamics and most pokemon evolve from how strong your relationship is with them (instead of level or power or movesets) and the pokemon art is super gorgeous. the combat's a lil weird, since it definitely plays a bit more like a fire emblem game than a pokemon game, and the story's a lil bit weaker but the post-game story is almost a whole new game too, since you then get to start smaller individual campaigns playing as various npcs and get to unlock a bunch of new 'mon you didn't have access to in the main game. honestly, it's the only pokemon game i ever truly tried to 100%, and i still feel sad to this day that i lost the copy with the attempt when i was kicked out of my home years ago.

paper mario 64 and paper mario: the thousand year door are also great plays (i say knowing that the ttyd remake is probs gonna get hype back for them), they're just genuinely great stories with lots of cool world-building (there's an entire penguin village! a haunted forest of boos! an ice castle with a dead king!) and a fun partner system and a turn-based combat system with experience points and a badge system to make it fun and the speedrun + randomizer communities around at least pape64 are honestly just so great and wholesome. like. i usually replay pape64 once every few years, just because the game is so fun even as a replay, and i would honestly want little more than to go up to miyamoto himself and tell him how much these games mean to me and how much i wish he'd actually bring the paper mario series back to when it was "a mario rpg but they all just happen to be made of paper" rather than "a mario game where everyone's paper and that's it that's the prompt"

for a non-nintendo and current game? uh. probably slime rancher and my friendly neighborhood. i've spent way too many hours herding slimes to not highly recommend the game (i am still so sad that the sequel doesn't have multiplayer, i just wanna chill with some friends herding slimes together), and my friendly neighborhood is just a really fun take on the mascot horror genre but with a nice, neat story and resident evil style mechanics that just work really well together. they're both great games and i think they deserve more recognition than they get.

okay you know what, i take it back, the roku version is the english dub and it is all kinds of cursed, i'm not kidding when i say that it took me literally 5 hours at work to get through the first episode (and like 2 of them were just the first 5 minutes) because i had to keep pausing to recover from the emotional damage it was doing me. i'm gonna do episode 2 in time for the next bump on this because at this point the only way out of it is through, even if it destroys my mental state-

this is my boy cyprus (yes, he did used to be my avatar a long time ago) and i love him to bits so very much and have tried to rp him so many times, up to and including annoying the crap out of everyone around me with my hcs for his canonverse, it's a major personal problem-

in all seriousness though, cy's story has changed a lot with my playthrough of the game, since ffxiv has been a game that i've been playing for a v v long time (i remember being too terrified of mechanics to farm tsukiyomi when it was current content, even if i was feral for the mount lol) and took huge breaks from seriously playing before i finally came back to it. i also play my canonverse where it's a bit more like the first in that all my friends' wols are also there as fellow wols so. yeah.

i have this whole huge long story for him since my boy actually goes through a timeloop after the end of 5.0 with the end of base shadowbringers (to explain me keeping the old characterization from before i got back into the game and the new characterization from my new playthrough), but the base of it tl;drs down to that he wakes up in a destroyed cottage near the border of ishgard and gridania with blood everywhere and no memories earlier than that, and he ends up having to go on the run + accidentally ends up with the scions purely by accident since he ends up befriending them + the other wols (a combo of my two besties', my gf's, and an ex-friend's pcs) while on the run. they all go on to help him with finding out his past alongside all the shenanigans, and when they end up in ishgard, it ends up coming out that he did actually do the murders, since he summoned a primal version of nidhogg + ended up under its influence (no blessing of hydaelyn for my boy, so say i) and has a whole arc about yeeting that out of him + getting his found family back. sb messes him up since, y'know, kind of hard to fight primals when you don't have the protection of the echo anymore, but midgardsormr ends up doing him a solid and gives him a sliver of his power so he won't be enthralled + this will work out for him up until he starts nearly getting consumed by the light in the first since, like i said, it's not hydaelyn's blessing, he's not built to eat this, and it nearly kills him before he manages to yeet it out of himself (and ends up finding out he did this all before, and it's weird, but he's made his life now and this is what he's moving forward with-)

give me like another 3 months and i'm sure i'll have more ramble about him (since i've only recently started working my way back through shb on the remake version of cy), but for now, this is where we leave it.

i've also got a new viera boy who moved into my head with my return and idk maybe i'll end up rping him in-game, maybe i won't, but his name is lucilius and he's from a clan who left the forests long ago since they were exceptionally powerful astrologian seers and he's haurchefant's childhood best friend (since haurche would take one look at the small viera child who starts fights in the playground over getting his ears pulled or being called a dumb nickname, decide to befriend him, and then be aghast when he starts picking fights with the other kids who called him a bastard) and bickers constantly with estinien (because heaven forbid estinien let him be right, the day that happens will be the day they both die) since he was the healer for their lil light party of bard aymeric, paladin haurchefant, dragoon estinien, and astrologian lucilius. after he successfully assists in burning the holy see to the ground for what they did in hw, he goes on a fun tour now burning the world to the ground while he copes with his grief (and keeps on with his job of making sure estinien doesn't get himself killed out of pure spite for all of them). i'm so excited to watch him continue to develop, there's no way it's not going to get funnier for what i know of what's to come-

//slight deviation from the original topic but

I heavily dislike any apps that require an rp sample. What gives anyone the right to judge whether this player or that player have better writing, better grasp of the canon, and have more right to play x character? It already sets up the idea of "you might not be good enough of a writer" and just allows for more exclusivity and elitism in the rp space. It's a hobby, not a job.

Maybe it makes sense in the panfandom community, but just seems strange to require a sample of your writing to prove your ability to be able to engage in a hobby. If the admins want to make sure the characters are aligned with the canon, then they should communicate with the writer along the way, not look to see if they should be excluded from the get go.

i used to not be a huge fan of writing samples, but honestly, i've actually come around to them after having a huge epiphany about them.

which is to say. if you're wanting to use an rp sample to judge the quality of someone's writing or the characterization of a given character - you're not going to learn anything the rest of the app generally wouldn't already tell you. most freeforms/histories are going to be more than long enough to given an indication for quality (and tbeh i think there's an argument to be made that someone's skill in long-form prose probably shouldn't matter for rp when rp is an ongoing back-and-forth between two people, not a self-contained piece from just one person) and in my experience, the objectively bad takes on a character (think like captain america being hydra) are going to be throughout the entire app rather than something you catch in an rp sample alone.

that being said though. if you have a simpler app, especially one that forgoes personality sections, an "rp sample" can make a huge difference in actually getting a feel for the character's, well, characterization, particularly if the freeform/history is dry or short or full of purple prose or obscure or lacking in any other way. when done well, that drabble on a character is going to give as much information about the characterization as a good freeform would.

to put it another way. when i last apped tartaglia for a discord server, i made his sample a whole drabble about him having to go fetch dottore from his lab and being given one freebie question to ask dottore literally anything which he then used to ask if he did the dirty with his clones and immediately got thrown out of his lab, and it was dumb and silly and probably said just about as much about how i intended to play him (as a man with little to no impulse control, a shaky grasp on respecting authority, absolutely no fear in the face of near certain doom, and an eternal pain in the rear for every single one of his coworkers or anyone else who happens to exist near him) as the actual history section i wrote for him.

ngl, it would have been cool to have had a ffxiv site set in the first before it fell, with the option to play the canons if you want but also to play ocs since it's all an alternate timeline with multiple canonical warriors of light (and also kind of powerful, to know that no matter what you did as a site, the "ending" would always result in the light consuming the pcs)

why no, i'm not over shadowbringers and i never will be

staffers, if you know your community can accommodate this and have a place for the majority of the vampire knight cast to exist and aggressively ignore the canon problematic stuff with as much power as we physically possibly can, pitch it to me. i'm most comfortable with jcink and discord as platforms, but i'm willing to go back to proboards or even try out a new platform for this.

casual pixelers, if you're still with me and either already on board with this chaotic ramble or interested enough to let me continue to ramble about this series to you while you work your way through it, hit me up. i've played kaname before and am most comfortable with him, but i've dabbled a lil bit with senri shiki as well and i'd honestly be willing to give most of the rest of the main cast a shot if everything else filled up. if we can't find a site, i'm not opposed to just throwing a private discord server together and going from there (seriously, the forum feature makes discord work nearly the same as a site, it's so nice), but i'm fully down to poll the room before we commit to anything.

i just. i really really really am craving rping vampire knight stuff and would literally be over the moon to just get a group together to do it with ;;;;;;;;

Hoyo letting the Zenless Zone Zero producers add a skip dialogue button is so annoying to me as a Genshin/HSR player because, look, sometimes I actually don't care about the little itty bitty side quests that are either blocking me from continuing main story or what have you.

Add it into Genshin and HSR, you cowards. (And while you're at it, bring back a nice summer event like the Golden Apple Archipelago for Genshin, please, and thanks.)

I am also curious as to how the reception will be for ZZZ and if it's going to somehow tie into the whole Honkai/Genshin lore. Personally, I'm not a fan of futuristic/cyberpunk/apocalyptic settings, so I probably will pass.

okay but if we're talking about we're talking about mhy bringing qol mechanics they introduced in later ones into earlier ones-

petition for previous events being accessible after the event ends (which honkai star rail + tears of themis have) being something they add to genshin, because i am so tired of them introducing major lore (universe or character) in limited-time events that are entirely inaccessible in-game after the event period + that new/returning players wouldn't know to look for

also an "auto-battle" function for domains, especially earlier ones. i know genshin is real-time combat and not turn-based like the same two games, but listen, i am so tired of farming domains, it's just a constantly tedious chore that isn't even remotely fun anymore
