To be fair, if it's 18+ and all about getting down to the dishy dirty, the size and girth of a character's dick becomes super relevant information.

The mountains on their chest could reach Jupiter’s rings and their fair, green skin was as immaculate as cultivated mold used to produce penincilin. A glance at their behind could fill empty bellies with how packed their bakery is.
Lmaooo, EXACTLY.

You get it. You get the problem.

all the rp concepts in my head but none of the friends nor skills needed to make them a “successful” site. skinning is easy(sometimes) but building a community?? definitely not the person to do it hehe. props to the friend groups who can pull it off — and that’s the key isn’t it? friend groups as staff. imo + afaik anw!

it’s fact at this point so i feel more shikatanai~ than being all sadge. lowkey thinking of making it all a legit game instead… and maybe that’s what i need in life. to dream bigger?? …said the someone who’d never dared to dream in her entire life skdhfksdhf rip

i've always said that making a site is easy, but building a community is hard. staff rly set the culture of the site imo, if you want an active site, you have to be an active member :3 and if u want to make a very close-knit site, well you have to be friendly and get to know ur members as well. easier said than done but ive seen many sites die just because the admins open a site and don't engage with their members!

Setting culture from the top is a tale as old as time. Goes for the workplace, MMORPG guilds, Discords, roleplay sites... People look to who's in charge and take it as a standard for behaviour. If you're a memelord always joking around, you'll see people feel more comfortable to post memes in Discord continuously. But if you're real serious and strictly business, people'll be more reluctant to share memes.

That's probably the hardest part of running a roleplay site too. Just writing systems and setting up boards is easy. A skin...depends on how much work you want to make it. But setting culture, sheesh...

ive seen many sites die just because the admins open a site and don't engage with their members!

I think people sometimes undervalue the worth of an admin and staffmembers roleplaying on the site itself too. Seen it too often that they're "too busy running the site" to actually participate, and often that lack of passion drips down to the memberbase.

Coincidentally, I was actually talking about the site I was working on with my girlfriend last night and said similar. I think admin and staff as a whole have to remember they have a lot of 'power' in community creation, activity and people generally feeling welcome. To add even, being the site's creator, you could easily be seen as a constant. Chances are, you are not going anywhere which can be reassuring for the member in question. So I have considered it a bit of a 'duty' cause I want people to feel welcome, have plots and have fun. That's why people role-play after all! Being friendly can really set a theme very quickly and that is good to see.

I don't know if anyone else does this, but sometimes if I see someone not getting plot attention, I will go talk with them and plot. I know people appreciate the reach out since I have seen it a lot before. Especially since you are entering a new space where you may not know that many people; small or big. So there is a lot of importance in the attitude and activity of an admin. It also works to making community building difficult since sometimes you do get busy and making posts can be difficult. Overall though, I do find it an interesting commentary as someone who has admined a lot and seen it a lot.

I do say there is a small caveat to this, especially if the site is growing at a rapid pace. Don't spread yourself too thin with threads. But I do agree that it's still good to be active and trying to engage with newer people, even if you can't thread right away. It may be help some older members some oomph to help and try to plot with newer people as well. Especially if they see the admin(s) are making an effort.

Also, my only little what's on my mind: we're starting to do some beta-testing for our guidebook to make sure things make sense for our setting. I appreciate the one person that's been looking it over so far because while there's grammar mistakes and some things that may need to some minor rework, it's nice to have fresh eyes on something that hasn't been either touched in a few good months or it's something we haven't thought about. Anyone willing to help do that gets the biggest hugs and hearts from me. v u v <3~

There's a saying in this hobby that there's no "wrong" way to RP other than insisting to others that your way is the only right way to do so. With this logic in mind, it makes me wonder if this means even widely derided playstyles like the dreaded murderhobo isn't a "wrong" way to RP.

Like, there's nothing wrong in RPing a murderhobo in and of itself... Provided you can find a community or group that's willing to entertain said playstyle.

I think forum rp provides a unique challenge to the murderhobo playstyle versus D&D-style tabletop, namely the lack of a GM. Everyone wants to be the murderhobo, but no one wants their oc to get murderhobo'd. So if murderhobo'ing is to be done, you need disposable NPCs to kill, but you also need an excuse for another player to be threading with you (because otherwise you're just writing a solo fic).

You can potentially get around this... if you have a site where staff are expected to GM the NPCs (so you don't need another oc to participate), or you have a very robust stat system / trust in other players to "play fair" when controlling the NPCs so that everyone gets an equal chance at the kill-scoring.

figuring out how to play around the narrative limitations of an oc with overpowered abilities is fun as hell

There's hope beyond this lone abyss.
In the earliest possible hours of the morning: Wait! I have update my RP profiles, create 10000 images, and do other maintenance-related things right now.

...I mean, I'll take the energy when I can get it at this point considering how it's been for me lately.
