tabletops take such wild turns. sometimes you just ask your dm if your character (a human priest/inquisitor that made themselves into a relentless human weapon made to capture and hunt mages and non-believers) can get out of a sinking pit by jabbing their pole axe against the one wagon that isn't sinking and using that to climb up to the wagon roof while your party members are perishing during an ambush by a malevolent god whom you tried to shoot no hesitation. and then thirty minutes later a different pc casts magic to learn what happened in that encounter, only to discover your character had a cool as hell fight sequence against several ancient monsters they were not equipped to fight on the roof of said wagon, got overpowered, and tackled into an off-screen death.

...and then discuss with the dm at the end of the session re: what happened to your character. you now have to roll a new character because your old one upset the malevolent god, was transported into a post-apocalyptic wasteland by said god, captured and enslaved by an ominous group of masked malevolent ancient forces, and will now be a future surprise boss fight for their old party members in true winter soldier fashion.

or, as i told my dm, "i killed my favorite child and now they're the witcher's darth vader, the winter soldier, and mr. x in one"

i honestly cannot wait for this plot development.

You are sixteen and you stand before your father and a tray of poisoned goblets, and he tells you to drink, and you think you have a choice in the matter because there are three glasses and you can tell the slight discoloration of one against the others, and you are told by your father and your God to make your choice, and three other divines wait until you cough and blood coats your sleeve.

You are sixteen and you think you’re making a choice but the truth of the matter is you didn’t even pick out the goblets. They were only given.

honestly there's a LOT of unfinished plots i had that i wanted to see through, but ended up unfinished due to closed sites or private rps dying off in interest / investment eventually. but some that i still think abt until now include: (spoilered all of these out of length bc i cannot shut up abt old plots tbh)

a noblewoman bargaining herself as a political hostage for one powerhouse (A) she didn't trust with the intention of securing her safety by making herself an asset / spy to another powerhouse (B) whom (A) was loyal to. all to protect / secure the future of her territory. eventually i was planning on having this evolve toward her becoming a spymaster-like figure for her territory, using all that experience to her advantage.

a stalwartly loyal and morally ambiguous (read: murderous / anti-aristocracy extremist) priest-like figure joins a cult in the search for a purpose and something to believe in and something "Right"(TM), completely doubling down on the kool-aid being offered to them, and eventually following their leader to a warzone. i planned on deathflagging the character in said warzone plot beat; if a pc wanted to kill them, i'd be down for it. if they survived the encounter, they would likely have been completely on their own, lost, with a crisis of faith, and aimlessly wandering while figuring out "what comes next after all i've done". whether that would have turned into a redemption arc or a tragedy or karmic justice was smth i left completely up in the air, but i rlly liked how open-ended the possibilities were.

simply put: a character of mine started from the very bottom (npc to another ship's development), got some of the worst possible cards they could have gotten (being turned into a vampire against her will), only to rise above her circumstances through a long series of events and eventually become a city-wide hero ++ the canon of a new faction. got a new snazzy title: the Judge, and was in the middle of a plotline involving uncovering a black market weapons conspiracy that i rlly liked bc of the further dev it would have given her + she would have eventually been granted a cure for her vampirism by someone she once deemed an enemy, allowing her her future again + a lifetime she could properly spend with her (mortal) ship partner. but then the site closed. :"D

stubborn and spiteful ragtag journalist who doesn't believe in ghosts but runs a paranormal detective agency with her (believer) friend and a psychic intern is given a case: help a demon prince stuck inside the body of a child (due to a summoning ritual gone wrong) return back to hell. the catch is that, prior to the case, the journalist was severely traumatized via almost getting killed + her coworkers nearly getting killed by a cult. so she would have hatched a deal with the demon prince in secret: she helps him get back home if he helps expose / investigate / retaliate against the cult and he would have made a pact with her that gave her the ability to burn things with her hands. very much was going to be a deconstruction of a revenge arc. the rp died off before she could make a deal with the demon though. :"D
(bangs hands on table) ENEMIES TO LOVERS RIVALS IN AN SAO-ESQUE VIDEO GAME BETWEEN A MASKED MERCENARY THAT SEEMED LIKE A BAD BOY TROPE + WAS CONSTANTLY OFF'ING A GUILD'S MEMBERS IN THIS GAME AND A SUNSHINE GIRL PART OF THE GUILD HE MAKES A DEAL WITH: BEAT HIM IN A FIGHT, FIGURE OUT HIS RL NAME, AND HE WOULD LEAVE HER GUILD ALONE + WOULD REVEAL WHY IT SEEMS LIKE HE KNOWS HER RL. it would then turn out that the mercenary was actually a fencing classmate of hers who almost immediately recognized her in the game (bc the sunshine girl's avatar wasn't so different from her real appearance ++ she and her guild were becoming esport-level famous). he also would have turned out to be a lazy, slacker goth girl who's just cocky when she puts a mask on and very, very bad at flirting. the rp ALSO died off before the two could meet properly for a duel but i still think abt it from time to time. they're both dorks and i'm still so attached to this ship even now. so much. if i can redo this dynamic again in some capacity i'd fucking jump to do it, bro.

not so much a plot for rp, but the plot of a short dnd campaign i was dm-ing that didn't go past the first few sessions: a duke hires the party to steal a relic from a holy church during a special vigil where a number of important political figures in the empire would attend. the duke asks them to replace the relic with a fake variant so the church would be less likely to act asap. as the party does favors for the duke in preparation for the heist, they might start to learn that things aren't all that it seems. eventually, once they do the heist and (ideally) succeed and run away from the scene of the crime -- the church explodes. the fake relic they dropped there in place of the old one was actually a bomb. if they return to the duke's estate in an attempt to figure out what to do / how to hide, it turns out the inquisition would have already killed the duke because they learned he was part of a terrorist group that wanted to upset the current systems of the kingdom and the party would have to go on the run.

the campaign was meant to introduce the players of that party to dnd using story tropes i knew we all liked (a heist, twists, complications, lore, avenues for found family, political intrigue, etc.) and keep it straightforward enough that there's a clear arc / story direction to keep everyone invested, but also open-ended enough that if they enjoyed playing dnd and their characters, there would be a bouncing off point for everyone / a plot to continue. i'm still rlly proud of it and eventually, a year or two later, told my party about the full plan. they all agreed that it would have been insane to experience and it was a missed opportunity that we never found the time to complete the campaign, but at least we all know what could have been.

For now, though, the new daimyo of Shimoyama stands at the edge of the shrines as the rest of the province gives their closure, her heart heavy in her chest and her sorrow an empty song within her ribcage, and waits in the background until her work begins.

She will mourn her family when it is no longer a spectacle and the world is no longer watching.

doubleposting but since its been awhile im p sure its chill and, like, i’m pretty sure this is the most romantic thing i’ve ever written or will ever write.

"Garnier, I've never felt forced to pick a damn choice with you in my life."

Somewhere in the distance, the lanterns continue to drift to their highest peak.

What is the price of revolution?

A mother lost in the fight to salvage a future for a generation beyond her reach; detention cards for acting out in an attempt to right injustice with a violent swing; a thundering cry of rebellion in rock-n-roll succession, dashed as soon as it could even come; the technicolor banners of a manifesto the great majority scorn in the interest of self-capital and comfortability; to give your heart and then some more to the abstract dream of freedom and liberty and the American dream on its tombstone until there's nothing left to give—

To enter the heart of the enemy in bold confidence they won't shoot first.

not from my last post, but part of my last batch of them last night and i think abt this passage a lot
