The new additions look really great, Lorsynth! That navigation bar at the top is super convenient, and I like that you kept the aesthetic in tact while making everything a bit more stream-lined.

Also I'm still crazy impressed with the art. The texturing on the "frames" around the forum look extremely professional, like something in a late 90's/early 2000's video game (with a higher resolution, ofc).

shout out to for reminding me princess tutu was a thing and now I need to go icon things because that hover is freaking adorable.

OMG THANKS!!!

That anime is possibly...my absolute favorite story of all time, and contains my favorite characters of all time. (If anyone hasn't watched it yet, I recommend watching episode 1 and THEN skipping straight to episode 6. Trust me.)

HOLY SHIT THIS IS BEAUTIFUL.

Seriously, it's obvious the amount of work you guys have put into this site. Just looking at the preview forum online is mind-bogglingly beautiful. Are the images all pixel work? Plus I adore the consistent and just, really cool aesthetic.

I will definitely keep an eye on this. This is an ambitious project for sure, but considering the effort put into it already, I have a feeling it'll be a success. The world, too, seems very original and exciting.

EDIT: The only thing I would say is that the amount of tables and links makes everything look crazy busy and confusing. Maybe find some way to streamline the formatting of the forum for easy navigation & readability?

something i've been thinking about for a few years, as it always seems to happen to me:

i am tired of being the "bad cop" of admin teams. like, somehow, i always end up falling into the role where i have to be the one to point out problems, or say when something is not okay. i also end up something like a guard dog, being the one to defend against rude people/annoyances. and like... that's fine. but it's not easy on me. if someone needs to step up and do it, i will. but i don't want to be seen as some heartless/nitpicky bitch. i am actually... ridiculously sensitive. and i end up crying over site related shit a lot more often than a person should. this is all online and shouldn't bother me irl, but... fuck, does it.

i've also been thrown under the bus so many times, to appease other members. like, oh i don't really have an issue with it myself, but.... and guess what? i'm the but, because i saw a very serious issue with a certain thing. it really eats away at me. i know there is usually a staff/member sort of divide, but this just makes it grow wider and wider.

i try my hardest to remain fair and impartial, and i work in the background to make sure everything comes off as kindly but as firmly as necessary... but i'm still the bad guy at the end of the day. the one who gives out all the bad news and the one who no one wants to interact with.

maybe i care too much about these things. but... staffing has become painful for me. so much so, that i'm hesitant to help out even when a friend asks me to.

i just want to have a good time and write, just like everyone else. i'm tired of ending up the bad guy.

I'm not fully involved in your situation, and I've never been a staff member so I can't really empathize, but I'm sorry to hear about this. This sounds to me like it's negatively impacting your mood and your life, if I'm correct in assuming so.

I wouldn't say just because something is online doesn't mean it shouldn't bother you. Still, the good thing about hobbies online is that if they start to become toxic, you can walk away from them--and even then, it's not walking away from a hobby per se, it's walking away from managing a hobby for other people. I would really suggest that, if staffing has really become detrimental to your mental and emotional health, you stop doing it for your own sake, even if your friend asks for help.

don't westerns have native americans in them from time to time? the fantasy could come from there?

This is true, but I don't want to invite anyone's offense and/or stereotyping of Native American religions as this power-granting 'mysticism.' I'm sure there's a way to do it that's not potentially offensive, but since I'm not Native American and don't have a ton of knowledge about their cultures (other than maybe Commanche), that's a can of worms I don't want to open.

(Side note: if players wanted to make Native American characters, they would be free to do so provided they did their research.)

This idea has been bouncing around in my head for a while, but I don't see this genre of rp often and am wondering if people would even join.

A historical Western rp with tiny elements of fantasy, i.e. certain people are born with powers to manipulate the elements on a limited level. (Example: conducting a thirty-minute ritual, undisturbed, to set a building in town on fire; meditating (maybe even praying to some primitive god??) for hours to bring rain the next day.)

But it would be set in the 1880's frontier with small towns, bandits, gangs, sheriffs, vigilantes, and even regular ole' people populating the rp.

Oh, also: no face claims.

If it sounds interesting to you, please like this post or DM me!

I swear, one day someone will make a Western/Red Dead Redemption rp, and I will join faster than the fastest guns in the West.

EDIT: Alternatively, a desolate prison planet 300 years in the future where some semblance of society has appeared as a result of inmates of various types all being dumped together in a wasteland to die, but said society is very much survival-of-the-fittest, Western frontier-esque. (...With a sprinkling of Riddick aesthetic. I love the world-building in those movies.)

Some of these hit upon things I'm looking for, might look more into the Dragon Age characters to see what they offer. I'm just so solid in this idea for her age dangit

Oh hi!! Tiny Pup is such a cute name. T u T

yea, don't sacrifice that age! I feel you: I'm thinking about playing an old man character, and I'm determined to find that appropriate 70 year old+ fc. (Somehow, it will happen.)

 been watching a lot of 90's anime lately and now all i can think about is a shaman king x soul eater combination. or my heart and souls outlaw star and sailor moon.

Oh man, Outlaw Star has such a cool world. It has everything you need in your sci-fi scenario: treasure hunting, space ships with grappling arms, magic, Aisha Klan-klan, androids, bounty hunters, a touch of the goofiness, did I mention space ships with grappling arms. It would even out-do Beebop or Firefly in terms of western-sci-fi worlds to rp in, I think!

a yu yu hakusho based roleplay that focuses on tournaments / battles as major plot movements. just kind of a fight heavy site but since i know i am not good at fighting roleplay and i want it to be easily accessible to those who are not as well:

tldr:

> simple stat system that can be upgraded by exp you earn from rp / tournaments.

> actions in fights are determined by rolls. ( so like... a 1d20 for a punch. you roll a 2 but your str stat is 10 so 2+10=12. )

> those actions are written out by the player. the rolls just determine whether you hit or nah. though aside from fighting against an npc-- players can mutually agree to fight each other however they want tbh.

idk if this would be too complicated to set up but i feel like it wouldn't be that bad if i kept the rules more dnd with the stats and kept progression / upgrades preformed in a few steps / simple.

but yeah. it's just an interest check. so. like if you're interested. > A <

Okay, that's weird. I was just thinking about YYH and how great it would be to roleplay out. I was specifically thinking about the world of YYH, but tournaments & battles definitely factor into that! (I mean, this is Togashi we're talking about.)

I think dice rolls are a great way to go about it. If the fights are that simple, you might not even need a staff member to NPC it, maybe just to lurk every once in a while to make sure things are fair. This would definitely lighten the staff's load while also freeing members up to create their own plots around the actual fight.

I think you.........might be in one of my rps actually?? But in any case, try Lisa Lisa or Mariah from JJBA. (Mariah is def a personal fave of mine.) There's also Mine Fujiko from Lupin III. A lot of older anime had a less "moe" art style, so their female characters just looked more appropriately-aged overall.

The Dragon Age series also has some great options for older female fcs with a lot of diversity. Check out Mass Effect fanart, too! In general I think it's easier to find these kinds of fcs for Western properties, such as games like Overwatch and League of Legends, too.

sci-fi / dystopian crime rp based in futuristic hong kong with background fantasy elements aka. people have superpowers (bonus points if it's strictly elemental powers - water/air/fire/etc, and bonus bonus points if there's magical realism) without that being the main focus.
I never knew how much I needed this. I can see it as a cross between Blade Runner, AtLA, and an 80's John Woo film. If you ever create something like this, let me know because I'd be down.

I don't have any admin experience, but these questions are still ones I've thought about. I think they're pretty good questions myself! I can't answer the first question with any authority in that regard, but:

2. As an rper, I find canon positions generally restricting and a source of anxiety for me, because of your question #3. I do like the idea of occupation/position claims, however, or I saw an rp once that called their canons "sub-plots": in other words, they were ideas for characters left out for members to potentially pick up, but they weren't essential to the site or set in stone in any way.

3. I feel like a lot of rps I've been on still don't know how to effectively deal with this. When I played on LJ/DW pan-fandoms for a little bit, the issue of inactive canons could be dealt with easily. The character would simply "go back to their world," and for whatever reason due to the mysterious nature of the panfandom world, if someone else picked them up again that character would lose any previous-rp memories, letting the new mun start from a blank slate. (It was also a cool plot device for other characters with history to realize that, no, their best friend does not remember becoming best friends with them.)

Of course, that kind of tactic doesn't work for a lot of roleplays, especially the real-life/non-fantasy ones. Still, I think a lot of rps could use a by-line that says "if you quit/drop a character, please provide a reason for your character leaving the ic world, or else we will come up with one for you." I'd imagine these staff-designated ones are typically "character x moved out of the town suddenly." I think with site canons, staff could have even more freedom to decide what these are, and maybe even come up with some interesting concepts as a result! A mun ghosted, thus leaving the captain of the guards in an inactivity limbo? Whoops, the captain of the guards died and someone new has to step up to the plate! Or, the captain of the guards vanished and now the whole squadron is wondering if he was kidnapped! Etc.
