I still prefer to keep a lot of stuff off-Discord, that said however...

I like coloured roles, I have them in all my personal servers — and I like leaving them open for requests of more. I still think pronoun roles are useful for those who don’t want to use the pronoun field for any reason. Preferably all self-selectable, saves us all the trouble.

Let me see if I can think of how I’d organize an RP server...

I'd probably adjust this a little bit but...yeah, seems good to me?

I don’t use voice channels, as you can see. I may throw one in just for some streaming fun or something, but idk.

As for joining servers, I prefer a minimal amount of bots. But there aren’t many dealbreakers overall for me — lots of channels, lots of coloured roles or none etc etc. — as long as I can be my regularly lurky self.

^ same here. I think at this point I just tell people about gifts or gift things early if I'm having to stop myself from going TAKE THIS. Is for you. every time I talk to them. I personally don't like most surprises and many of my friends are the same so it kinda works

can I PLEASE stop getting sick btw. these past months have been a disaster health-wise. far too repetitive story arc 0/10 ...

I had this experience of being surprised at how detailed plotting is now, compared to the sites I played on back when I did the most significant amount of RP. I’ve since adapted to a lot of changes and I can adapt to this one as well . And my mind has been opened to coin flips/dice rolls lately, just to add to it all

There's merits to planning and obviously major things should be discussed or touched upon at some point to ensure everything’s on board and all that, but I do have lots of fun not-quite-knowing what will happen next. There is a balance to strike, which can really depend on who you're writing with and the characters invovled as well

I’m on maybe a 20% planned / 80% emergent preference, and of course, this isn’t really set-in-stone, but it is fun assigning percentages to things

Accessibility options, freeform applications, titles/epitaphs, lil quote sections, developmental boards, OOC boards in general since I still love posting on forums, flavourful profile fields, custom colours for profiles/mini-profiles/posts, badges, personal skin customization (being able to select whatever colours you want for a set skin etc etc), responsive skins because I tend to read posts on mobile, the ability to move/edit/delete your own In-Character posts, and the list goes on and on and on...

I've never beaten a Dark Souls game even though I have been into the series since I was a young teenager. The community was important to me and I got right into it before the general Souls craze occurred, but...I still haven't beaten a single Souls* game.

I have beaten Sekiro, however.

I'm an outlier in the sense that I found Sekiro's combat...easier than Souls? It's weird, especially since most people I talk to find it harder. Something about the mechanics there feeling more natural or intuitive to me, especially the lack of a stamina cap? Hm.

* OK, I guess if Elden Ring counts. I have completed Elden Ring.

Writing characters who haven’t had millions of hours of therapy and are at different stages of recovery is important and fun...

...but it’s also fun to write characters who will use lessons learned from therapy or equivalents for ~evil~

Example: Working and communicating through issues with friends can bring friends closer together sometimes, so here’s a character who arranges these misunderstandings on purpose !

I'm really excited to write truly antagonistic characters again. One of these days. I adore seeing them in action regardless of whether or not I'm writing them

I could do more shoutouts, I couldn’t possibly cover them all, but I’ll try!

But I especially want to extend positivity to the past members of my previous RP forums who made friend groups of their own out of them. It’s such a joy cultivating communities where connections and friends can be made, even after the forum dies.

Shoutout to the RP partner recently who simply told me that they lost interest in the roleplay, it’s the kind of honesty and communication I deeply appreciate from anyone.

Whenever I think about my RP experiences, I realize I have more positive than negative, even if the negative do especially stand out. So, all my love to the people I’m currently writing with, anywhere. I’m having a blast returning to RP recently and I really hope life doesn’t wash over me like it did last time and pull me away from online communities. Even if it does, odds are I’ll come back.

Shoutout to the friend group I made on MSN well over 10 years ago now, where we schemed and made silly jokes and made RPs based on our silly jokes. I miss you all, and I’m so glad I’m still on good terms with one of you. Despite what happened with the group and any feelings regarding how I suddenly vanished from it all one day, I wouldn’t trade the connections we made back then for anything, and I hope you all are well, wherever you all.

Shoutout to anyone who has ever reached out to me for anything, who communicated their joy or issues in regard to anything I’ve written. I’ve grown a lot as a person and as a writer over the years, thanks to even the briefest of connections I’ve made on forums long dead.
