thinking about how I’ve actually barely watched anime and with those I have seen, I don’t remember them very well. Really, I just prefer to read things so unless a friend is like “you will watch this WITH ME now!”, it's unlikely I've watched something. anything --

Thinking more, I can add "real life RP" and "smut" to the list too.

I'm kind of lukewarm about whether or not I dislike Slice of Life in general. Hmmm. I'd need to actually do it more to figure out how I truly feel.

I also don't like to play someone else's characters -- fandom canons, for example, or very precise/strict wanteds. I'm not very confident in my ability to portray someone else's vision.

I lean towards the idea of simply opening a dialogue with your RP partners — asking them how they feel about your current threads, maybe don’t say “I feel like I’m just dragging you along” at first and instead “So, what do you think about how our threads are going?” and then tell them about how you feel here. I’m someone who wouldn’t find such an interaction awkward, though I don’t speak for everyone — but since you’re mulling this over, I feel like it’s worth trying to ask, y’know?

Maybe you’re reading these signals wrong but also ask yourself, in cases where you are, would you still want to continue the RP/thread(s) in question?

As porsef said, you can’t stop people from lying. It isn’t your sole responsibility to make up for someone else’s (especially a stranger’s) lack of communication skills or difficulty in expressing their needs, so please put an emphasis on how you feel and what you want here. It’s worth taking some time to think about all of this, and yeah, it’s not a bad thing to drop threads or sites if you’re not feeling it anymore, despite whatever cool things have happened. You could always take a break too?

1. I just gotta know where the character is, the current setting, what they're doing, and all that. I don’t mind having my own character not mentioned at all and lean towards preferring to figure it out in my reply. I am a fan of open threads. I don’t mind long or short posts, I love reading longer posts but short and sweet is sweet too.

2. Energy permitting...yes? Maybe. My least favourite thing about starting threads is naming them. If someone wants a thread with one of my characters, doesn’t want to start, if they prefer having their character mentioned: lets me know what their character would be doing, and gives me a name for the thread so I don’t have to agonize over it, I’ll generally start anything.

School...

Maybe one day I’ll stumble upon an RP that makes me actually like “our characters are in some sort of educational setting where we have to do classes and we'll write them being in class etc etc” but well, there’s a reason why I tend to skip over the majority of school stuff whenever I write anything, if it exists at all, even stuff that’s not RP. It can be made interesting but I, admittedly, have to be convinced...

It’s heavily inconsistent for me but...

- I also pace a lot when I’m thinking about writing or ideas in general.
- I write down outlines or overall ideas I have, make notes too, and sometimes I think of a sentence (etc) I want to include in a post at some point ... which I may or may not ever use. This is pretty mandatory for me long-term. I have a lot of ideas and oh... my brain can’t hold them without overflowing.
- Since my memory is bad, I try to make summaries of what has already happened and such, to try and retain consistency better.
- It can take a while for me to write replies due to the process involved but sometimes it won’t. This has nothing to do with interest or lack of interest and just based on whims. I can get very indecisive, so I sometimes write an entire reply and sit on it for a bit to be sure.
- I try to avoid staring at a blank page, as if words would magically appear at any moment, as it’s easy for me to get entangled with worry which only makes the hurdle worse. Sometimes it really is just pulling off the band-aid and all that.
- And I don’t always write replies in chronological order—I tend to write what I know I want to first, and then piece it together, and then piece it together more, and then edit it more...
- And of course, I have to have the energy to write in the first place, which is unfortunately rarely fully within my control.

But sometimes it’s ??????????????. Regardless, writing happens!!

It boils down to “what other people bring to the table” and “it’s fun storytelling with other people”, and other sentiments expressed already, for the most part.

There’s the fact that RP was what got me into coding, and well...just web design in general. I was writing stories since I was young, and making art, so even if I never got into RP, I would have done those anyways, but working on sites, making tables (templates), and all that got me into coding and so on. There’s just so many possible avenues for one’s own creativity when it comes down to RP. It made learning more fun for me.

So: all the skills I’ve developed or grown thanks to getting into RP, that’s up there with my favourite things. And while I was writing stories when younger, there’s no denying the influence RP has had on my overall style, that my writing would look different if I had never started.

But I've expressed this before and I mean, RP brings me a lot of joy in smaller ways as well. There's words I love seeing and so on. Actually just...one of my favourite hobbies I've ever taken part in because of how easily it can bring me joy to just read other people's writing, regardless of my participation.
