all of this mess is just my attempt to know the worth of my life; made of precious metals inside

an urban fantasy roleplay
[attr=class,text]
Long has mankind feared the dark and the unknown; long have they walked with eyes closed and ears shut, content in ignorance, confident in their science and skeptical of what they cannot see with their blind eyes. But ignorance of a thing does not render it null - there is power in change, in the shifting of the seasons and the turning of the tide; a power you once called magic, which we have always called life.
[break][break] It seeps into our world from a place unknown - the Otherworld - a place woven and bound to our physical plane since time imemmorial, and even we who descend from it dare not return. Men fear it as a hungry, consuming thing, and they may very well be right.
[break][break] Our story takes place in an era of scientific progress and societal stagnation, in a country which was once the imperial beacon of civilization and is now the stage of our world's next great struggle; Kamelot.
[attr=class,text] [attr=class,sub-header] general premise
[break] The lore draws heavily on Celtic folklore and mythology as well as Arthurian legend, and the story takes place in an Earth-like, modern-day world as yet unnamed, in which the existence of the magical and fantastic is largely shrouded from public knowledge. Our primary goal is member-driven plot and storytelling. [break][break] The overall plot will unfold through site-wide story arcs, the timing and completion of which will depend on our members, allowing for member-driven pacing. Members will not be forced to engage with the overall plot, but will receive greater rewards for doing so.[break][break] [attr=class,sub-header] magic systems
[break] There are two separate "magic systems"; magic, or Otherworldly magic, Sidhe magic, mysticism, whichever term suits your palette, and sorcery. Magic is soft and malleable, with few limitations to allow for creative freedom, and can only be used by non-human races - while sorcery is hard-edged with clearly-defined rules, and can only be used by humans, but can do certain things which magic cannot, and presents unique character challenges. [attr=class,text] [attr=class,sub-header] character races
[break] Playable character races are generally split into three groups - humans, halflings, and Sidhe. In the case of the first two, these stand alone as singular racial options (for now), while the third is more of a broad category under which several relatively distinct races fall. It is expected that more races and sub-races will be added on at a later date, based on member feedback and wishes. [break][break] Humans are fairly self-explanatory. Basic homo sapiens. They can be divided into two groups; the first being the vast majority, which are completely unaware of magic and all things unordinary, and the second being the small minority which are aware. Members can play as either. Humans can also be sorcerers, or druids who call on Sidhe or the Otherworld for magical phenomena. [break][break] Halflings are a cross between humans and Sidhe. They inherit magic and transformative abilities from their Sidhe parents, but their magic power is typically reduced by comparison, and their longevity is the same as a human's. They also have a weakness for iron, but are considerably more resistant. [break][break] Sidhe can also be called fairies, although they rather dislike this term due to the cherub-like, butterfly-winged connotation associated with it. They come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and temperaments, often affected by individual race, and can live for a very, very long time without aging or undergoing much change at all. Their magic expands and strengthens with age, and many of them have less-than-human forms. Iron burns and weakens them, and prolonged contact can induce iron poisoning. [break][break] [attr=class,sub-header] factions
[break] Each faction has distinct motivations which can and will bring them into direct conflict with others, and will be the primary drivers of the overall plot. Characters are not required to have a faction, but may join or leave factions throughout the course of their own story. We may add in new factions at a later date. [break][break] High Council of Sorcery[break] The High Council of Sorcery governs over the sorcerer population, enforcing their laws with iron-fisted resolve and maintaining the fragile peace between unwitting humanity and the Sidhe, a responsibility handed down to them by their founder, Merlin. [break][break] Myrrdin[break] Also known as the "Sons of Merlin," the Myrrdin are a small, renegade group of sorcerers and freedom fighters who oppose the High Council of Sorcery's tyranny and oppression, and engage them with guerrilla-like warfare. [break][break] Silver Court[break] The highborn nobility of the Tuatha de Danaan, a Sidhe people who once ruled over vast swathes of Kamelot in ancient times as gods and kings. Though their people are now scattered, the Silver Court and its king still maintain some of their influence, and yearn for the day they return to their rightful seat of power, Tir na Nog. [break][break] Glass Tower, Inc.[break] A powerful international corporation of ill renown, whose ranks are comprised of Sidhe and human alike. It has monopoly in many legal and illegal industries, and is not above extortion, blackmail, and murder to get what it wants. [break][break] Wild Hunt[break] The chosen few of the Tylwyth Teg, a Sidhe people who still hold their kingdom, Anwyn, deep beneath the earth, tasked with guarding their reclusive people against the outside world. Hunters and punishers, under the command of their master and king, Arawn, they exact justice on those who wrong them and their people, and disregard the authority of all others. [break][break] Briar Circle[break] An ancient sect of human druids, dedicated to the teachings of Guinevere, the last Queen of the Otherworld. They preoccupy themselves with the balance between the physical plane and the Otherworld, and are rumored to be capable of calling up magic of earth-shattering proportions. [break][break] Order of Acterus[break] An order of knights, charged with protecting Kamelot's people against the potential threats of magic and sorcery alike. Where they once used sword and shield towards this end, they now use the highest-grade automated weaponry, technology, and subterfuge to achieve their goals, operating in secret and apart from the rest of Kamelot's government. [attr=class,text] [attr=class,sub-header] progress
[break] Skin / (The latest rendition of) the site skin is still in its infancy, and it's expected to take a number (two or three, perhaps) of weeks to finish before we're ready for a soft opening. [break][break] Lore / Most of the lore still has to actually be transferred from my headspace to written word, but in terms of development, the bulk of it is in the final stages, and not all of it needs to be written down for a soft opening. [break][break] Structure & Mechanics / The mechanics and structure are more or less ready for a soft opening, though it's expected we'll be making plenty of adjustments after opening in order to finalize anyways.
