I've been working on some sort of a 'slice-of-life with a twist RP' for a while. The site is more or less finished by now, though it could use some tweaking (something I'd definitely do). However, my co-founder has left the project without a word, and I've been rather demotivated to even continue with the site myself. Nevertheless, I don't really want to abandon a site I've been working on without at least trying to give it a chance. Therefore, I'm posting this quick interest check to see if there is some interest in a site of this nature.

As mentioned above, Light Rain (name still pending) is set in a fictional city named Yamashiro, a medium-sized city located somewhere in central Japan. Yamashiro is brimming with plenty of opportunities for students and entrepreneurs alike. One of the city's prides is its prestigious school, Yamashiro University, with students that come from all corners of the country. The central areas of the city are filled with rising businesses, yet also breath-taking historical monuments. Surrounded by deep woods and hills, the city has also become a cradle for paranormal activity: mysterious disappearances, ghost sightings, events that cannot be rationally comprehended.

Light Rain is a slice-of-life RP with some mystery and horror elements mixed into it. To summarize the plot: Yamashiro is a beautiful city, but the forest around it is probably haunted. Plenty of urban legends, do not leave your house at night, spooky stuff, etc. Of course, Light Rain is, at its core, a simple slice-of-life RP and you can choose to ignore its supernatural elements and aim for more simplistic plots.

A while back I posted an interest check for an AoT-based RP that would primarily focus the struggle of humans vs. Titans. Exploration, no titan shifters, little political drama.

Several centuries ago, monstrous giants seemingly lacking human intelligence have abruptly appeared out of nowhere and consumed most of the entire world's population. A handful of people have managed to run away and build three giant walls to guard themselves and the future generations from the rising threat of the man-eating giants. For hundreds of years, the walls have offered enough protection for the small remnants of humanity. The tiny human world had managed to thrive. However, peace wasn't meant to last forever as the sudden jump in technological progress and a steep growth of population has used the most of the tiny nation's natural resources. The walled world could not support its demanding population anymore.

A new military regiment has been formed, the Scouting Legion, a battalion of elite soldiers tasked to venture outside the walls to find new natural resources and commence humanity's counterattack against the mindless giants. 

I lowkey want to see an Attack on Titan-esque site minus all the political drama. Just some medieval society huddled behind some walls, trying to fight some really big giants. and no titan shifters, plz

Shapeshifting is actually the most common ability yokai tend to have. So, there's no problem in your yokai character taking a form of someone else and then forgetting that they were a yokai in the first place. In fact, I think it would be really interesting to see a character of this kind ^.^

I went over Rhyme's character description again and you stated that you'd like him to have a strong sense of empathy. I don't see this as a problem either, considering that I myself have a human character who's very empathetic toward others. 

As for kami characters, they are currently unavailable to create. They might become available in the nearby future, we'll see. Just to clarify, kami is basically a "god" in Setsunai's settings. I simply define kami as "spirits that are worshipped by humans," because one yokai is more powerful than other and it's difficult to exactly draw the line how much powerful a yokai must be to be considered a kami. Nevertheless, I don't think it's necessary to make your character a kami, because his abilities seem fairly reasonable. ^^

I was debating whether I should reply to this site search or not, but, oh well, let's try to give this a shot. 



Setsunai is a historical fantasy roleplay that takes place in 16th century Japan in the heated era of warring states, aka the Sengoku Jidai. Our plot mainly revolves around political disputes between three major clans (Tokugawa, Toyotomi and Oda) and their conquest for local power. The site sometimes gains inspiration from some real historical events and then twists them to spice things up a bit. Our second part of the plot involves mythical creatures from Japanese folklore (=yokai) and their shenanigans. In short, our site is basically about samurai fighting with one other, plus some spirits and mythological beings doing stuff. A mix of Japanese history and folklore.

We mostly do not approve supernatural powers for human characters (only yokai are allowed to use magic), but we also have these onmyoji characters who are essentially priests or mages. Onmyoji characters are able to communicate with the spirits, summon them, seal them, control them, and all that fun stuff.

The site has been around for over a month. The community isn't very big, but it's very friendly and accepting. If you wish to give Setsunai a shot, we'll be happy to have you ^-^ Nevertheless, I hope you'll eventually find the site you're looking for C:

dyfalu , I've quite recently decided that yokai characters are going to be available right from the beginning ^-^ 
I did not want to include them right at the start, because I didn't want to make the plot too overwhelming and hard to understand; but I recently got the idea of demon and spirit characters haunting the dreams of regular human characters, plaguing them with awful nightmares. Human characters are affected by the ongoing conflict between the clans, thus their weakened minds are making them the perfect target for spirits with ill intentions.

Of course, not all spirits haunt dreams, and anyone is welcome to create a spirit by its own liking. This plot-idea is rather what made me make up my mind ^^" But, yeah, yokai characters are definitely going to be available right from the start ^^

To answer your question, I imagine that a character becoming a spirit or a demon is a possible thing. The most probable way how a character may become a spirit or a demon is to let the character die with some unfulfilled goal/purpose. Maybe a dying character feels too much grief and/or anger to the point where they are simply unable to find peace, and thus they become a spirit or a demon. So, yes, characters can become spirits or demons, especially after their death.

I don’t see a living character just randomly becoming a demon though. Maybe an onmyoji may get temporarily possessed by a spirit when a ritual goes terribly wrong or when there’s one powerful demon who has the need to cause trouble.

I think I'll go ahead and give this idea a try. I'll go ahead and create a separate Discord server as some sort of a 'pre-register' for this site - and so that I'd be able to flesh things out based on others' feedback, plot, and other things. I'm still quite busy today, so I'll create it likely tomorrow. ^^

@iota , when the site gets done, I'd prefer to focus on the clans and their politics first. However, the site will offer these "onmyoji" characters right from the beginning. These onmyoji characters essentially work as priests, fortune-tellers, etc. They will perform various rituals, and they would have the ability to communicate with various demons and spirits. 

At the beginning, demons and spirits are likely going to stay as NPC characters. However, I plan on making them playable once the clans establish themselves. 

In conclusion, supernatural creatures are going to become playable in the not-so-distant future. Until that happens, onmyoji are going to serve as a link between the real world and the spirit realm. 

@touka , to be honest, I haven't decided yet. Personally, I have a slight preference for Jcink for various reasons, so I'd prefer to host the roleplay on Jcink. It's not set in stone yet, and it'll definitely be something to discuss on the Discord server.

This idea has been resting at the back of my mind for a while, but it got shoved aside by my other ideas. Now that I'm looking for new things to get into, I think it's finally time I share it and see what others think. I'm quite self-conscious, so bear with me ^^"

I'm intrigued by Japanese history, mainly the warring states period (aka the Sengoku era), and I've been thinking about making a site based on this period. The overall lore would need some brainstorming, but the basic premise is that there are clans and warlords fighting for local power. I'd like to give others the freedom to create their own clans and factions, but I'd prefer to start with only three major clans for the sake of simplicity - and then let the members decide what the fate of these big clans is.

I'd also love to see fantasy elements sprinkled there. I'm all up for adding some elements of Japanese folklore.

I have a lot more suggestions and ideas for this potential RP, but this is the basic premise. Interested? Is this site worth making? I'd love to hear your opinions ^-^
