Honestly I prefer a mix of both fast and slow posters.

Someone who posts once or twice a month = fine.
The entire site only gets a new post once or twice a month = I think people have lost interest, and can't stay invested in my own plots.

big rp dreams but none of the balls to carry it out + feeling silly and presumptuous about post requirements and all that because who am i to make people feel remotely pressured in this ~hobby~. if people wanna write then they would(along with the what), but i think overall i learned a lot, thankfully with most of them largely in line with what i’m doing next…. maybe.

i should just go back to being people’s hype man instead of being my own tho

maybe wallace being my fav was foreshadowing
Really still thinking about that time someone strongly implied i should drop a canon character because they weren’t my fav, and also equated that as “hating” the character. Granted it was said with malice behind my back to destroy my reputation and manipulate those around me but i do think they believe that sort of thing. And no doubt many others too.

I am very proud of being able to play all sorts of characters, and am even open to playing those i truly hate. RPing is both being a sympathetic reader and a cruel writer. Working on them allows you to understand them, to see into their lives as they unfold from the trickling sands of impetus. I had this passion after rping Azula from atla; she wasn’t a fav or someone i particularly think about. I only rped her bc my theme for my cast was “villain” and i wanted to rp more women… then i felt how much closer we were from our mommy issues and she’s become my problematic, toxic girl friend since.

One good thing about being awfully confrontational and direct growing up in the forum rping community is learning i am often wrong. It really has helped me be open-minded with people of all sorts of life while having a healthy self-awareness of preconceived notions and biases. It makes you happier feeling like you aren’t trapped by the way your mind perceives your surroundings. There are always unknown things about that you can approach with the chance to learn

i'm starting to realize a big issue i have with forum rp is the lack of risk/surprise/drama. it's like...to me, sites just feel so stagnant before they die and nothing "big" ever really happens. no losses, no wins, no major plot changes outside of the interpersonal, just a lot of...blah

like maybe stats, numbers, whatever etc. etc. are a good thing as they do make rp less predictable

Oh man, look at me delurking because I have to reply to this. Absolutely yes. I study games, so I am a total nerd about this, and I don't think people realize just how much properly designed systems can do for a roleplaying site. A lot of that is because a lot of people don't know how to design systems for forum RP, and try to adapt systems from elsewhere that aren't necessarily good for it, which is kind of unfortunate to me. To expand on this a little, these are the three principles I think are important for systems in forum RP.

1.) Make unexpected things happen. You ever have one of those threads where your character gets an idea and it moves the thread in a weird and unexpected direction? Picture that happening all the time. It's beautiful. Sometimes, all you need is a little prompt to force your mind to think about weird circumstances, and good systems can help you do this.

2.) Make it easy to throw characters together. There's been many times I've wanted to throw my characters at someone, but have trouble figuring out how. Well designed systems can make this much easier.

3.) Give players some baseline for accepting what is reasonable and what is not. This can mean a lot of things, but for me, the most important one is for making big changes to the setting. I've found that people are a lot more accepting of their stuff getting blown up or changed somehow if they have some means to stop it, and people are much more willing to try big things if they're not afraid of stepping on peoples' toes. Having a set of rules means that everyone knows what to expect, and I've found a lot less people feel cheated when things don't go their way or if they lose something important to their character.

imo, there's only so much you can do with freeform, especially if you like to make characters that go hard on achieving their goals. Just getting people to agree on what happens is huge in this hobby because there's nothing quite like a genuine shared universe that everyone feels a part of. I'm always hopeful that more people will be willing to give them a shot someday.

Most fun I ever had on a site had a system for making big dumb superpower fights happen. It's over here please steal it. It's basically designed for people to go out and try to do something and then have people clash over it. Feel free to contact me about it on Discord @ kitten4u, or about systems in general. I like talking about them.

I have just had the epiphany that since I have been using lyrics from songs in my application profiles that I can credit them in the credits section. Don't ask me how it took me so long to come to this realization, I am not impressed with myself.

Goong back to finishing my sv playthrough with my fav arceus mons, one of which is drifblim. Apparently it carries people off too, not just kids. But when you look at it, it disappears, so uh…

Does that mean you just have random captured people from across the country falling off the sky the moment you notice them

private rp is also a good way to prevent stagnation, ironically.

you're a lot less possessive of your things if you know some random can't ruin it for their epeen stroking session. also, fewer cooks in the kitchen means you can generally agree more on what you cook.
