1. inuyasha
2. yu yu hakusho
3. jojo's bizarre adventure
4. bleach
5. magi: the labyrinth of magic

special mentions for loveless because while having very wrong romantic age gaps among other questionable themes — it a really neat soulmate magic system that i'd love to see implemented in an rp.

i've felt the "i don't think this person is enjoying our thread(s)" many times and as an anxious rper, i can say whether you are or not -- it's difficult to tell how others truly feel because we are on digital platforms. so, we can't see facial expressions or hear the tonal queues in voices to really catch much of a hint outside of our own one-sided perceptions. the gut feeling in these regards is such a wild card.

i tend to look for a few markers before i decide to move on:

  • - are they replying to other threads much faster than they are ours? if so, how long am i kept hanging? anything longer than two weeks while they're rapid firing with john every other day says a lot.
  • when i try to talk to them about the thread / characters, are they participating in the conversation? some people have low social battery days but if it's persistent, it's time to stop trying sis.
  • is the behavior they're displaying that bothers me consistent with others and/or past interactions?

but it is sometimes worth it to just ask for clarity. people are going to lie to try to avoid conflict (even if there would never be) if that's how they are. i've had that happen and i won't lie, i've done it to others myself.

if the vibes ain't there regardless of what i do, it's good to just close it up and move on. a lot of times after i calmed down my anxiety, i found i just wasn't compatible with the other person in terms of plotting / threading.

i don't (personally) think it's bad to drop threads for whatever reason. even just taking a little hiatus if it's really been lame out there.

best thing abt working in optical is learning abt how many different, cool prescription lenses there are and what you can make custom. like they have these transition lenses with a colored flash coat. so they just have a pink/red/blue/etc. shine.

worst thing is discovering how many doctors and optical techs know very little about what they do. also, how much they overcharge. talk abt a 5x upcharge in some places.

a local optical i go to sells frames that cost less than 7 bucks for over 100. :sob:
My best friend did a job similar to yours for awhile and she told me a lot of what you did! Learning that I was sometimes paying literally like 200x what I needed to for glasses is insane. I will never feel bad about asking for my prescription and buying my glasses online at places like zenni ever lmao

fr fr

i tell all my friends and family now that either i'll process their lenses for w.e. frame they want or to shop around for more affordable prices. 😞 i know a lot of the cost of the frames gets eaten by some insurances but people pay so much for just lenses that cost like... $15 for a pair directly from the lab.

combat.

i've been on so many shounen sites where people liked writing combat and i enjoyed it in drips and drabs. esp pve moments.

but 90% of the time it was playing 5d chess word games and trying to find loopholes in how someone else wrote something so you can win or to prevent losing within 2 turns. even w. stats or pseudo stats, it seldom changed.

girl, i just worked my 9 to 5 i don't want to think about what i write that hard. :weary:

on the topic and as someone who loves playing with taboo / problematic themes, i think the hardest part about incorporating them into a character is that not a lot of people give you the chance to make them good or improve upon how you handle those topics.

it tends to have a lot of ooc backlash and ic to ooc mixing without constructive criticism to help the writer improve. ( obv. if the person is deliberately being an asshole about it, then i get it. but if they are trying, all the more reason to try lending a hand. ) even just with 'villains' or morally fluid characters that have more commonly accepted dark tropes. seen and been through a LOT of drama.

i think to make those characters subjectively good — i agree, a lot of research has to go into characters with sensitive material baked in and tact when interacting with others. even so a lot of it is still up to interpretation. as most writers don't think the way our characters do or hold the same beliefs in reality. so it is all interpreting from outsourced accounts and possible exposure.

also, i've been absorbing all these replies like a sponge. it's very interesting seeing all the different perspectives. :eye:

{ What makes a good starter? }

for me, i tend to enjoy starters that get straight to the point and drop our characters into a scene. if it is a longer post bc the person wants to set up a precursor for their character — by all means. just give my character some bait to bite and it's good enough for me.

if the post has nothing to do with my character and puts me in a position where i need to initiate the interaction with my post then i'd dub it a not so good starter. bc at that point, it ends up being me writing the starter.

{ Do you like starting threads? If not, why? }

i do when i have an idea of the type of thread we are doing. the scene we want to set. what we are exploring. etc.

but if it is one of those 'just throw them into anything' type plots with not too much discussion beforehand — i hate starting them. yuckie. 😿 some people are really good at that but i am not.

1. How was the beginning for you? When it first started? Was it scary? Laughable? Or just plain [rude]?

i caught it while i was in new york before it blew up into a huge thing. it sucked but i survived. thought it was a bad case of the flu. didn't need to go to the doctor. just slept for a week and ate a LOT of panera bread that i got delivered to me.

but after it came out and blew up — i didn't really get scared. not immunocompromised. i was unemployed and chronically online so social deprivation didn't affect me. i can't win a war against microorganisms either and i don't fear death as no day is guaranteed.

2. Have you been struggling through all this? If so how, and what would you change if you could talk to your past Last Year self?

n/a to both. i think i handled it well. if anything, get myself more educated earlier on.

3. How are you doing now? Did you learn anything? Do you think you're going to make it those last couple of months?

great! got a new job. really bounced back from my depression (non-covid related) last year.

4. What has been your Worst and Best experience caused by the Pandemic Overall?

the vaccine (in its early, not well tested stages) being forced on me through peer pressure and propaganda was the worst. having to wear face masks in florida while it is super hot alongside other minor inconveniences were annoying. best experience? my family and i were stuck in key west right before the lockdown. that was nice. had the resort all to ourselves.

5. Did you, a Family Friend, Family Member, or Coworker catch it? What happened to them, how did that make you feel?

some of my family members caught it. some vaccinated, some not vaccinated. no one close to me died from it. we all recovered and never really caught it again. if we did, it wasn't any worse than a bad cold.
