Genuine question: if you're treating a "get to know you thread" as equivalent to starting a conversation with a random stranger at a bus stop, how can you be sure that you'll enjoy writing the thread with the other character? (Or rper, for that matter, assuming they're not a preexisting rp friend?)

(of course, it's entirely possible that we lie at opposite ends of the "willing to talk to a random stranger" scale!)
Can't. There are absolutely no guarantees in ANYTHING.

This, again lol. Also not every thread / interaction with other characters has to end up spanning into a full on plotting thing. It could easily be a one off thread where two characters interact once and then maybe never interact again or not interact until some other random point where they've probably forgotten about one another. Which to me the latter merits a chance for a reset between the characters because they might be at developmental points that they can mesh together better.

Also if I don't mesh with a roleplayer or their character after a thread then it's water off of my back because now I've invested zero time in learning about this other character. If me and the RP'er vibe and the characters have somewhere to go then 100% I'm investing time into reading the bio now.

Also also and this is just a me thing. But I don't enjoy random meet and greet threads in general(I still do them because I hate myself). I warn people all the time that if the thread doesn't go anywhere I will randomly throw ninjas/monsters/soldiers/muggers/something into the thread to spice it up. lol

(And who threads with other people without reading their ocs' profiles anyway?)
Me. Most of the time. I only read the profiles if my character is supposed to know the other character or if I'm trying to see if I'm trying to see if the two fit together for a specific plot. If they're just meeting for the first time I prefer to go in as blind as my character is. It makes for more genuine reactions.

I'm pretty much the same. If there's something super important in the bio that I need to know about as a player, or if makes sense for my character(like my character running a background check on the other character with player permission) then I'll typically take a look. Otherwise I enjoy going in as blind as my character.

I'm similar to Neko in that I can post fairly quickly and it's actually super rare or very contingent on me posting slowly. But for myself I typically will try and post as I go. Because having too many replies built up just results in being beaten up by the adhd monster to where I feel overwhelmed and stop responding to all of the my threads. Even the one's I really enjoy stop getting responded to because I always end up feeling overwhelmed that I have too many threads to reply to if I hoard them / let them build up.

Small side note; this is also why typically I limit the amount of characters I have to say one or two, with the max I can run typically being three. It helps relieve that potential for things to build up and being smacked with feeling of things overwhelming me.

I miss GOAYBs (Get Opinions About Your Boards). They were helpful when it came down to things you might've overlooked or when it came to figuring out how much of your guidebook and stuff needed to be paired down. Can we bring these back?

I try to make my characters feel more life like, as in they could be people if you squinted hard enough. I like doing that through describing micro actions they may do while talking, like for instance a character idly fidgeting with a straw in their drink while they're talking or listening to someone talk. Or the way their hands move when they're in a conversation, if their hands move at all.

I also typically "act out" a character scene at my desk, keeping my character's traits in mind, and do body movements like they would and talk with their mannerisms so that I have dialogue that feels more real. I also don't have my characters respond to every little line of text or action, Often times when I myself talk to someone, things get missed or overlooked or just kind of outright ignored/tuned out. So I also try and take that into consideration when it comes to playing my characters as well. Even if they're 'super/hyper observant' because 'super/hyper observant' doesn't mean they see or react to every little detail.

Speaking of, I like to have my characters each speak differently from one another. Even if they're related they all have their own way to say something. For instance, I have three characters, (A mother, Father, and Son) and the way they say something simple like; 'Either Way.' is completely different from one another. Like the son may say; "Yeah whatever." The mother might say "Either Way" and the father may say; "Regardless." But they all say the same thing different. It makes each character feel unique and also makes roleplaying out miscommunications much easier.

As someone who lived so far south it never snowed in their entire lives, seeing snow for the first time is something that was straight up magical. It's like rain, but cute and quieter.

Fascinated! Is this going to be humans-only?
Yup, humans only, no magic whatsoever. The foci of the site would surround more on human interactions, societal hierarchies, rage against the institution, something yada-yada commentary about a capitalist society, etc.

So what you're saying is.... Animanga Al Capone?

Mature-looking women is for sure one of the hardest categories to FC. They exist in a lot of media, but are not popular among artists I suppose.

I've had better luck with Korean or Chinese illustrations for this.

Speaking of Mihoyo gachas, they have a lot of older-looking characters as well and are practically drowning in art - so I see why they're so widely used. I am getting fatigued with their designs though, like the girls often have the same Chinese-feudal-flowy-rimmed-with-metal-dress with tights or thigh-highs.

You don't have to play Genshin or Honkai to see one of their characters and be like 'yep'. It's like recognizing Sakimichan's art randomly while you browse.

My usual go to for hoyoverse FC's is typically pulling from some of their older, less western popular titles. Like GGZ and HI3. Because honestly some of the time the characters get modern looking or plain clothes skins and outfits so it makes using them in modern settings a lot easier. But also I really only use Himeko from HI3. (I like that looks way better) Which actually works in my favor because the HI3 Himeko and the HSR Himeko look different enough that you can totally get away with both FC's existing on one site lmao.

I really prefer female FCs that look like, well, adults. I don't know how else to put this, but sometimes in animanga, the female FCs look so, so young.
Right?

You have no shortage of masc faces of all ages and body types but sometimes is2g it's nigh impossible to find a fem fc who looks unambiguously over the age of 30, regardless of the character's actual age

if you rule out exaggerated body proportions the pool shrinks even more

I hate that every artist out there draws their females with chests that double as life preservers. And trying to find characters that don't have massive sea raft sized assets immediately defaults results to soft-core loli crap.
