I know xianxia is currently the more popular, higher-achieving, shinier, glitterier cousin nowadays but an old-school/classic "realistic" and more grounded wuxia site (at least in the context of the genre) would really satisfy the Jin Yong kick I've been on recently...
- official and player-made sects competing for MacGuffins (unique named swords, martial arts manuals, misc relics, etc)
- mod- and player-led events like imperial/government crackdowns on martial artists, temporary alliances, tournaments, conspiracies, banquets, heists, sect leader elections...
- flexible and room for a lot of character concepts besides the archetypal wandering hero (bandits, innkeepers, information vendors, bounty hunters, security/escort/("biaoju") companies, healers, unorthodox cult members/dropouts, scholars, beggars, monks, lawful evil government officials, etc)

Just a lot of trope-y goodness and simple stuff done well is all I ask!

it's surprisingly pretty conducive to a huge open roleplay if you have everyone playing as a recently-awoken tarnished. they're all just runnin around with their own motives and goals, guided by grace towards the same end of becoming elden lord. entire playerbase of hobos that everyone in the world despises

That'd be super fun. But also I was imagining a setting waaayy before the game, like being a student at the Raya Lucaria Academy. Before the tree burned. Before the Scarlet Rot took Caelid. And then, idk, lead into the events of the game so we can live through the chaos too. ❤️
